The lowdown The Gallivant, best described as a restaurant with rooms, is bang opposite the golden beach of Camber Sands, only 90 minutes from London and five minutes’ drive from the cobbled streets and chic boutiques of Rye. Despite a rather functional exterior (which you should ignore) inside, the 20 rooms have a New England look, with driftwood-inspired furniture and striped furnishings. The food and service are second to none, and the menu features fresh, locally sourced ingredients. They have recently started gourmet evenings with top British chefs, including Tom Aikens, Richard Neat, Mitch Tonks, and Henry and Matthew Harris.
