Move over spiralizers, there’s a new kitchen gadget in town and it’s taking the healthy-eating world by storm. Step in, the dehydrator.
Championed by the Hemsley sisters and recommended by Gwyneth Paltrow, food dehydrators do exactly what their name suggests – dehydrate food without cooking it, which not only preserves the flavours but the nutrients too.
Use them on fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs to preserve and concentrate their natural flavours and sweetness for longer and at a fraction of the cost of shop-bought equivalents. Just pop your food of choice (tomatoes, grapes and mushrooms work particularly well because of their high water content) inside and hot water will circulate around it, removing the moisture and drying it out.
Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley use their dehydrator to crisp up nuts and seeds, to produce fruit and vegetable crisps and for making crackers and granolas, but there’s a plethora of other uses for the latest kitchen essential. Sorry slow cooker, spiralizer and Vitamix, you’ve officially been usurped.
