Back in 2001, three Kiwi guys set up the first Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Battersea, changing the UK burger scene forever and paving the way for the likes of Honest Burger and Meat Liquor and more to set up shop on British soil.
If you fancy yourself a bit of a burger aficionado, you’d be mad to miss the high street hero’s new menu. With a new lip-smacking burger incarnation as its centre point, the menu was created by renowned Chef Peter Gordon (dubbed “the Godfather of Fusion cuisine”) and GBK’s Head of Food Tim Molema, and is as creative as you’d come to expect from the burger pioneers. Peter made his name as Head Chef of The Sugar Club in Wellington, New Zealand in the late 80s (the London versions of which are in Notting Hill and Soho) and now oversees the running of The Providores & Tapa Room and Kopapa in London. He was also the one to create the original Gourmet Burger Kitchen menu back in 2001.
“The UK burger scene has evolved hugely over the last fourteen years”, says Gordon, “It seems like every day a new burger is making headlines, so when it came to creating my own, I knew it had to be something unique to stand out”.
And stand out it certainly does. The Duck Confit burger is a mouth-watering combination of melt-in-the-mouth duck confit, pâté, mature cheddar, rocket, fiery ginger and apricot chilli jam and crispy onions in a buttery brioche bun, that comes accompanied by inventive sweet potato fries with tamarind and dukkah dressing and a refreshing summer homeslaw with mint, pomegranate and sumac.
Wash it all down with their latest legendary shake – a delectable concoction of homemade banana ice cream with Lotus Biscoff caramelised biscuits – or trade it in for a glass of vino or ice-cold beer, for a truly trendsetting dining experience.
Peter's Menu will be available at Gourmet Burger Kitchen restaurants nationwide from 30th March 2015.
