As much as we love a good top knot (quick, easy and works wonders on greasy hair), sometimes we don’t always want to look like a ballerina.

Switch things up with the low knot instead – the top knot’s more elegant and grown-up sister. Just as easy to create and ideal for sweeping your hair off your neck in the warm weather, this versatile style works for every occasion and can be dressed up or down.

Browse our gallery of inspiration from polished to textured, and recreate the look for yourself with our tips below.

1. Start with second-day hair (or add some dry shampoo if it’s freshly washed).

2. Pull your hair back and down towards the nape of your neck. Twist it around and up into a low knot, beginning to pin it up into place with large hair pins.

3. Continue pinning your ‘knot’ until it feels secure on your head (and it's in the shape you want). With the front of your hair, you can pull out and dishevel the pieces as much as you'd like to complete the look.

4. Et voila! We can’t think of a better ‘do to suit Spring/Summer’s laidback vibes...
