Family-Friendly Holiday Destinations

The fast pace of modern life makes free time with the family all the more precious, and if you’ve booked time off to spend with the little ones, our travel guru Jeannette Arnold has sourced the holiday spots that’ll keep you and the kids happy this summer. From active breaks in secluded enclaves to boutique stays right on the beach, these 12 hotels and resorts guarantee some quality time to remember.

The Ritz-Carlton, Abama, Tenerife

This cliff top property goes all out in the luxury stakes – there’s a secluded, gold sand beach, Michelin-starred restaurants and one swimming pool for each day of the week.

Families will be most at home in the smaller suites, which come housed in Moorish-style buildings with views over the ocean, golf course or gardens. The hotel will even provide baby equipment if needed. Dine right next to the pool so you can keep an eye on the kids, and come evening, if any of your brood are under the age of four, they can enjoy the kids’ buffet for free.

Ammos Hotel, Chania, Crete

This small, elegant boutique hotel is located right on the beach just 15 minutes from the historical Venetian port of Chania and is a well-kept secret. Spread across several low-rise, cubic buildings, the 33 suites and studios are roomy and well-equipped, some with stunning sea views. The style is light and airy, with Scandi touches (Marimekko fabrics abound), and plenty of colourful artwork and designer pieces.

Ammos is ideal for children and is particularly suitable for babies and toddlers, with a sandy beach, shallow waters and a kids' pool, plus their Garden View Suites for families of four are pushchair-friendly, too.

Anassa, Cyprus

The jewel in Cyprus’ crown, Anassa is set on a jaw-droppingly beautiful and quiet part of the island, making it perfect for a blissed-out break with the children.

The hotel’s site is enormous – but families will be best off in the main building, just a short walk to the sunbathing area flanked by gardens and flowers. There is a warm and shallow children’s pool and a lovely multi-levelled pool with waterfalls, plus another for the adults - all of which look out over Asprokremnos beach, known as the most beautiful in Cyprus.

Foodies big and small will love the myriad dining options from the main restaurant to the poolside tavern and two fine-dining gastronomic restaurants. On top of all that, the kids’ club is top-notch.
