How To Get Model-Off-Duty Hair

Loose, undone hair with a carefree vibe couldn’t be more on-point for SS15 after everyone from Chanel to Chloe opted for low-key tresses at their shows. It also happens to be the signature style of the fash pack - from models to editors – so we’re obviously keen to get on board.

Offsetting casual summer outfits perfectly, the off-duty style works well during the hotter months thanks to the natural, sun-kissed highlights in our hair. But with thin line between looking effortlessly undone and just plain messy, how do you ensure us mere mortals do it right?

SL spoke to our Beauty Panel of top hair experts to find out how to nail it with aplomb...

The cut and colour to ask for:

“Ask for a long, layered cut, avoiding any forward graduation. You should also request naturally-blended balayage around the face, and if you want to add extra brightness to the ends of your hair try an ombre service which will work perfectly with layers.” Sam Burnett, HARE & BONE

How to style the look at home:

“Towel-dry freshly washed locks before rough-drying with the hairdryer – this will give a much more natural, lived-in look, and use a spray at the roots to add volume.” Jo Hansford

“To add waves, use a large tong or wand but leave the last two inches out so the ends are a little straighter. Always remember to wand each section of hair in different directions around barrel, so it's not so uniform. If the hair looks too ‘done’ when you’re finished, blast it with the dryer to break the curls up.” Harriet White, InParlour

How to deal with frizz and flyaways?

A top tip is to spray a really big blusher brush with hairspray and gently stroke it down the surface of the hair to get rid of any frizzy flyaways.” Charles Worthington

The must-have product:

“If the hair is too shiny the look won’t look right. Oribe’s Texture Spray is your secret weapon to getting that ‘off-duty model’ vibe.“ Harriet White, InParlour
