With the summer in full swing, we’re set to make the most of the longer, warmer days with plenty of after-work action, from drinking chilled rosé in a pub garden to dining al fresco.

Wearable desk-to-dinner looks are an absolute must when we can’t afford to waste a single moment of precious evening sun, so we’ve curated a collection of inspiring outfit ideas for you to scroll through, and put together our top five tips for acing on-to-off-duty styling.

1. Swap your shoes

The quickest way to update your look for evening is to swap your work day flats for a statement heel – whether you go for a bright stiletto or play it safe in block-heeled beauties, this simple addition will elevate your entire outfit. It sounds obvious but you’ll be grateful you have a pair stashed beneath your desk the next time a last-minute invite for evening drinks comes through.

2. Downsize your bag

Roomy totes are great for daytime when you want to stash everything from your iPad and make-up bag to your gym kit, but can feel cumbersome when you’re standing in a bar queue, so make sure you have a slick clutch on hand to transfer your essentials. Card, keys, lippy and phone – what else do you need?

3. Pick a classic combo

A classic silk cami worn under a sharp blazer is the ultimate desk-to-dinner solution during the warmer months, and one of the easiest to pull off. Keep things covered up and professional at work before ditching your top layer come evening.

4. Big up your beauty

While neutral tones and pared-back makeup are the order of the day for on-duty beauty, you can easily transition your look for evening with the addition of a simple slick of bold lipstick, or a classic smokey eye. Just make sure you pick one or the other to avoid overkill.

5. Pack some statement jewellery

Make sure you have some bold accessories on hand to rev up even the simplest of shirts or tees – whether you go for jewelled earrings, a statement necklace or a stylish arm cuff, a few added extras will pull your whole look together to signal you’ve moved from work to play mode.
