What is it: The New Bar Menu at Zuma, the trendy Japanese eatery where the A-list go to let their hair down.

Where is it: Smack bang in the heart of Knightsbridge.

The concept: From the team behind Roka – another top-nosh spot – Zuma is popular with high flyers who love its izakaya-style, informal eating, and its on-tap sushi and sashimi. This is cemented by its latest foray – a new bar menu which provides the perfect opportunity to indulge in Japanese delicacies without having to have a proper sit-down dinner.

Who to take: Your girlfriends for post-work drinks and a serious case of celeb spotting.

We tried: Maki Rolls with Fresh Crab, Avocado and Tobiko, Temaki Handrolls, Scallop, Mackerel and Octopus Sushi, before moving on toTuna Sashimi, Rock Shrimp Tempura with Chilli Tofu, Duck Breast with Chilli, Ginger and Sake, and Iberico Pork with Yuzu Koshu and Black Pepper. In short: a melt-in-the-mouth opportunity not to be missed.

Save room for: Wagyu Beef – the restaurant’s star (and naturally most expensive!) dish. Wash it down with our favourite Ocho Tequila Cocktail, infused with Sancho Peppers, Yellow Cherry Tomato Juice and Ponzu – which tastes a hell of a lot better than it sounds, like the fieriest bloody mary you’ll ever try.

What to drink: Any one of the Japanese whiskeys on offer – don’t blame us if you leave a bit tiddly.

The best thing about it was: That you can leave a restaurant with top-class cuisine and attentive service, but not feel like you’ve completely blown the budget.

The small print: The tables are close together which is great for drinks and snacks but not so good for a romantic dinner a deux. If you want a bit more privacy, this may not be the one for you.
