How To Transform Your Home With Dark Walls

We grew up with magnolia walls but painted our first property fifty shades of grey. Now the interiors world has moved on further still and it's a dark colour scheme that's the easiest ways to add interest and impact to a space. We spoke to the interiors experts at Th2Studio to find out how to incorporate dark walls into every room in your home…

Bathroom

Team brooding walls with luxe marble and warm metals for a modern, glamorous feel.

Th2Studio’s top tip: “Dark walls look great with bronze and copper accessories.”

Bedroom

Mix and match prints and textures to keep the look stylish, not stark. Think Persian rugs, soft sheepskin and pops of colour – deep teal works particularly well.

Th2Studio’s top tip: “The trend isn’t just for large spaces. Don’t be afraid if it’s the smallest room in the house, we often transform a tiny second bedroom or study using deep tones.”

Hallway

Lots of light and mirrors will stop the trend making narrow spaces seem cramped.

Th2Studio’s top tip: “Paint the ceiling dark too and the space will actually seem bigger.”

Kitchen

Don’t just stop at your walls, add a lick of dark paint to kitchen cupboards too. Deep-toned wooden floors and furniture will complement the look.

Th2Studio’s top tip: “Make sure you paint the skirting boards and doors the same intense colour as the walls to give maximum impact.”

Sitting Room

Bold wall prints, rugs in lighter shades and sink-into-me sofas will keep living spaces feeling homely and welcoming.

Th2Studio’s top tip: “Smart navy, rich plum and dark charcoal are some of our current favourites – they can turn a room into somewhere you’ll want to spend as much time as you can.”
