Coffee Coloured Hair Is The Trend To Try This Autumn

Forget your morning flat white, this season it’s all about adding a shot of coffee to your locks. Inspired by the brew’s rich tones, the trend will add a glossy shine, boost volume and perk up flat, post-summer colour with warming café au lait tones, syrupy cinnamon highlights or natural hazelnut hues.

Where can I get it?

Top London salon HARE & BONE has just launched a Coffee Colour Bar, where you can book in to have your tresses blended with rich, warm, coffee-inspired colours.

What’s it similar to?

Think of it as this season’s answer to balayage, but with a cooler, rock‘n’roll edge. HARE & BONE Founder and top celebrity stylist, Sam Burnett, says: “There are no rules – it’s not a one size fits all approach, the technique is completely dependent on the individual.” Whether you’re a macchiato or Americano kind of girl, there’s something for everyone.

Who will it suit?

This look works on a range of skin tones and hair colours, and don’t write the trend off if you’re blonde either – colours range from light ‘cappuccino’-inspired hues through to honey-hued ‘lattes’, sultry ‘mocha’ shades, through to deep ‘espresso’ browns. If you’re very ash or icy blonde, redhead or have black hair, this one’s probably not for you.

Who does it well?

Representing the coffee-hued blondes are Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, while Penelope Cruz nails the mocha look with rich, chocolate brown peppered with caramel ends.

And how about aftercare?

Thanks to the ‘lived-in’ style, it’s super easy to maintain and, aside from greys, re-growth shouldn’t be a problem. The colour will continue to look natural even when grown out, but it’s worth investing in a good purple shampoo and conditioner to ensure any tones on the blonder side of the scale don’t turn brassy. We particularly love the look styled into natural, just-woke-up-like-this waves to really make the most of the different tones.
