A Stylish Blogger’s Summer Hot List

Photographer, writer and social media expert Emma Hoareau, aka Lolita Says So, knows how to spend summer well. The sun-seeker and beauty pro has spent years collating insider intel about the coolest holiday destinations the world over, sharing dreamy beach-scapes and lifestyle pics on her wanderlust Instagram. Here, she shares her top tips for making this summer one to remember…

What are your summer beauty rules?

Wear SPF at all times, swap your foundation for a CC cream and always have a bright lip colour in your bag.

Any tips for looking pulled together on the beach?

Get your accessories right (big hat, sunglasses, straw bag) and you’ll look pulled together. Oh, and a face mist to cool yourself down.

Three favourite beauty products for holiday?

The Avène Eau Thermal comes with me on the plane and to the beach; it cools and soothes the skin. Institut Esthederm Adaptasun gives you the most even looking, deep tan. A good after-sun, like the one from Clarins, makes sure your skin stays nourished, even after a day by the pool.

Top hair care tips for holiday?

I love using oil on the ends of my hair so they don’t dry out; the Liz Earle Botanical Shine Hair Oil nourishes without leaving hair feeling greasy. I always try and wear a hat, too – look after your scalp!

What brands will you be wearing this summer?

I’m loving & Other Stories, and the new Mango Committed collection is amazing. The quality of their clothes is always really great, and I love a classic design with a twist.

Favourite SS18 trend?

The return of spaghetti straps and big hoops – the 90s just won’t quit and I’m here for it.

Any under-the-radar brands we should know about?

I fell in love with my Half Baked London swimsuit last summer, it’s such an incredible quality and fit and people always compliment me when I’m wearing it. I also love the jewellery brand Reliquia, and for summer linen dreams-come-true, the Australian brand Nice Martin has you covered.

One thing you'll be investing in for summer?

Shoes. When it’s hot I find it harder to dress ‘smart’ but I think as long as your shoes are great then the rest of your look can be a bit more relaxed. Mango and Ganni have some great mules at the moment.

What are your holiday style rules?

I always end up wearing the same thing – normally some sort of throw-on dress (last summer you barely saw me out of my Reformation mini dress). So for a holiday, I pack more accessories than clothes so I can mix up my looks.

Top packing tip?

Roll. For some reason when clothes are rolled up you can fit more in. And in terms of beauty, I love travelling with minis to give myself more space.

What fashion items do you always take on holiday?

Bikinis. For someone who lives in London I think I own more bikinis than jumpers! The way I think of it, most of my time on holiday I’d like to be either in the water or lounging in the sunshine – so bikinis need to be the thing I focus on and invest in, rather than a dress I’ll only wear for one evening during the trip.

What brands do you love for swimwear?

Marysia Swim, Seafolly and Half Baked London for amazing fitting pieces.

Holiday accessory must haves?

Beautiful gold jewellery, there’s nothing that complements freshly tanned skin quite so well…

Where are you off to this summer?

Nothing is booked yet, but I’ve got my heart set on Italy and Greece.

Best location for a city break?

Paris! I might be slightly biased, but since it’s not a huge city you can walk around for days. I grew up there and there’s nothing better than spending a few days wandering around in the sunshine in the parks, stopping to order a Nutella crepe or sitting at a café watching the world go by as you enjoy a glass of wine. What I love about it is that it’s just as fun solo as it is with friends.

Favourite hotel in the world?

Les Roches Rouges. I visited when it opened last summer and am dreaming of going back. The rooms are beautiful, the view is incredible and it’s right on the Mediterranean. What more could you want?

Best affordable stay?

The Hoxton.

Best hotel for a romantic stay?

Le Pigalle, Paris.

Best destination for a staycation?

I visited the Scilly Isles years ago and had one of the best holidays ever. Granted, it was during a heat wave, but it was so idyllic I couldn’t believe it was in England.

Best beach in the world?

That’s a hard one, but I’ve got to go with Santa Guilia in Corsica. For me a good beach is clean, not too busy and you can easily swim.
