Tell us more...

It all started back in 1870, when William Penhaligon opened a barber shop on London’s Jermyn Street, selling colognes and perfumes inspired by the Turkish baths just down the road to the city elite. His scents quickly became the stuff of legend, and the rest, as they say, is history. Fast-forward nearly 200 years and the perfume house’s line-up features some 50 different scents, all housed in the signature Penhaligon’s fragrance bottle: crystal clear glass with a unique ribbon-wrapped stopper. Working with some of the finest ‘noses’ in the industry, Penhaligon’s often draw on their unique heritage with a dose of eccentric British charm – a combination that has won them a loyal worldwide following.

What’s on offer?

From florals to orientals, Penhaligon’s olfactory offerings guarantee there’s something for everyone. Bestsellers in the women’s category include Luna, a blend of white flowers and fresh green foliage; Empressa, a sharp fruity-floral packed with Damascan rose, blood orange, geranium and pepper; Halfeti, an intoxicating mix of rose, jasmine and sandalwood; and Elisabethan Rose, a surprisingly modern take on rose, with cinnamon and almond. Some of the latest launches include the punchy Belgravia Chypre, brimming with bergamot, pink pepper and rose; as well as Marylebone Wood, a woody fragrance with a hint of grapefruit.

Who are they for?

The modern woman is bound to appreciate Penhaligon’s cult scents, with something to suit every personality. The distinctive bottle will be a welcome addition to any bathroom shelf or dresser, too. Whether you’re a Byredo or Le Labo fan, you’ll likely be impressed by the quality and depth of Penhaligon’s scents, that are head-turning without being overpowering.

How can I get my hands on one?

Consider booking in for a fragrance profiling experience at any of Penhaligon’s stores nationwide to discover your perfect scent – the 60-minute session will delve into your likes and dislikes and introduce you to the brand.

If you can’t make it to the store, take a couple of minutes to complete the online fragrance profiling, where you can order two samples that are redeemable when you buy a full-sized bottle. Not convinced by an online service? As fans of a light floral scent that isn’t too overbearing, we were pretty impressed to be recommended Equinox Bloom (a fragrance we already know and like) as well as Ellenisia, another floral bouquet with a hint of mandarin zest, nectar and violet leaf for a more youthful take. If you’re still not sure which fragrance will sit best on your skin, consider the Penhaligon’s Scent Library, which offers ten sample-size vials of the brand’s bestselling scents for just £20.
