The Coolest Female Artists On Instagram

Just as Instagram is a natural showcase for cutting-edge fashion, the same rings true in the art world – with a stream of young artists using the platform as virtual galleries (and gaining a whole lot of customers and fans in the process). Making it more accessible than ever to start your own collection, here are nine inspiring female artists whose work we want to buy right now…

Alexandria Coe

A graduate of the Chelsea College of Arts and Central Saint Martins, Coe is a London-based artist exploring the female body via the line. Using her unique method – an impulsive and minimalist form of automatic drawing – she creates striking nude portraits that represent a “natural and authentic” image of women. Both sexual and sensual, abstract yet instantly recognisable, it’s no wonder her work is being stocked in the likes of Liberty.

Lauren Muller

Born in Saint Lucia and raised in the New York suburbs, Muller is an artist, poet and film student at the NY School of Visual Arts. Her work, which spans abstract illustrations to swirling oil paintings, delves into the human experience – namely relationships, companionship and sexuality. She describes her style as “psychedelic sexy,” a phrase she borrowed from a fan to describe her “everything flows” creations.

Lucy Augé

A Bath-based with a passionate interest in flowers and plants, Augé’s evocative paintings capture the ephemerality of the natural world. She paints with Japanese inks on a wide range of specialist and vintage papers, and her unique botanical style – eloquent and organic, with a shadowy colour palette – has earned the artist commissions from Daylesford Organics and Vivienne Westwood.

Natalie Krim

Known for her small, intimate drawings and feminine collages, the LA-based artist has collaborated with Vogue, Calvin Klein and Hache. At face value, her work seems soft and sweet, but beneath the surface are Krim’s hidden desires and psychological processes (or as she puts it, her “little secrets”), designed to mirror the viewers internal world – sometimes unsettlingly – back at them.

Natalie Osborne

Creating original paintings at accessible prices, alongside a range of prints, Osborne is a champion of affordable art; believing everyone should make their home an “art world”. Many of her bold canvas portraits – each inspired by one of her muses – come in ornate gold frames, and are already proving big hits with interiors influencers on Instagram. We predict big things for this Chicago-based artist.

Nina Brooke

A surfer and artist living in Rock, Brooke is famed for her aerial seascapes – inspired by both her home on the north Cornwall coast and her travels across the globe, from the azure tropics of the Caribbean to the glittering shores of Ibiza. Her jewel-like paintings – which are also available to buy as prints – feel fresh and contemporary, yet classic. Real investment pieces for seaside-lovers.

Sofia Salazaar

An Argentinian textile designer and illustrator based in London, Salazar grew up surrounded by people who ‘made things’ for a living (both her parents were artists). And, as such, she makes something every day – from paintings and line drawings, to embroidered dresses, bags and sweatshirts. Largely inspired by sex and gender issues, Salazar sees her work as an “almost like a journal, a diary” cataloguing her daily thoughts.
