Californian cool meets Scandi style in this quintessential American look. Centre stage is texture, and the more organic the better, whether that’s woven oversized lampshades, reclaimed wood beams or honed marble worktops.
Harnessing light sources is the key to creating these sensitive, cocooning spaces that balance warmth with a sense of expansion. Floor-to-ceiling windows, vast sliding doors, clever internal glazing all help to create flow from the indoors out and, naturally, colour schemes are neutral and pared back, with accent colours coming from the materials used. While there’s a definite nod to beach chic, don’t expect a surfboard propped up against the wall – a framed black and white landscape would be more in keeping.
