Bored of your usual spin class? Inspired by the US, a wave of boutique studios are opening around the city. Claiming to offer the UK’s hardest is BOOM Cycle. Be prepared for thighs on fire and some serious calorie burn.
The Lowdown: More nightclub than gym, BOOM Cycle puts the fun in spinning with high-energy classes filled with cheering, high-fives and the best soundtrack in town.
Who Goes: London fitness fans and fashion editors alike are regulars to the Shoreditch and Holborn studios.
What To Expect: Interval classes that work your legs, core and cardiovascular system. Expect to sweat as you turn up the resistance and bounce up and down, moving to the beat.
What To Wear: Very little. This is the class to get out those crop tops and tiny shorts. Feeling conscious? Don’t worry the studio is in complete darkness, bar candles and strobe lighting.
What’s So Good About It? The class is the most fun we have tried in a while; the high energy instructors and retro R&B soundtrack ensure you forget any burn. Plus, with up to 700 calories burnt per session, you will leave on a high.
Difficulty Rating: Although the instructor is tough, you can control the bike’s resistance yourself, so even spin novices will survive their first class.
The Studio: Offering a cool place to hang out alongside spin, expect the best protein shakes in town (we are still dreaming of the Chocolate Nut Butter), fashion and a friendly team who are always happy to help.
Plus, if endurance exercise is your thing, BOOM Cycle now offer the Urban Tri a few times a year, combining hot yoga, a 5k run, finishing with a high-intensity spin class and a party to boot.
How Do I Get Involved? BOOM Cycle has studios in Shoreditch and Holborn, with classes starting from just £16.
