Chiltern Firehouse was without doubt the most talked about restaurant opening of last year, with a revolving door of the hottest celebrities and a five month-long waiting list for those less well connected, but it’s just so 2014 now....Mayfair’s Kitty Fisher's is the place on every food critic’s lips for 2015 and it looks set to steal the Firehouse’s crown as London’s most in-demand table.
Nestled away in Shepherd Market, the tiny venue has only six tables upstairs and five seats at the bar – so is definitely snug, but the food more than makes up for the cosiness.
Headed up by Tomas Parry - winner of the Young British Foodies' 'Best Chef of the Year Award' in 2014 – and former Pitt Cue Co. sous-chef Chris Leach, the kitchen churns out dainty plates such as Salt Cod Croquettes with Aioli, Buratta with Salt Baked Beetroot and Clementine, Ox Cheek with Potato and Sprout Tops and Beef Sirloin with Onion, Pickled Walnut, Pink Fir and Tunworth – a critic’s favourite that’s already a hot contender for dish of the year.
Small in size but big on taste, it also boasts some of the best ‘Bad Kitty’ cocktails around (intoxicating blends of sloe gin and cava) that when combined with the ‘ye olde’ London setting – think dark pink banquettes lit by candles, rustic fireplaces and a bespoke wood grill – make for the ideal date night spot...no wonder David and Samantha Cameron chose the foodie hotspot to host their date night.
