If you’re hoping for some beach bar action on your holidays this summer, we’ve rounded up the best to visit across the globe. Whether you’re partying in Ibiza, keeping it chic on the French Riviera or exploring Croatia, here’s SL’s pick of the top beach clubs to try for some serious poolside action.

Amante, Sol Den Serra

Set on a cliff overlooking the Sol Den Serra bay, Amante is worth a visit for the surroundings alone. Unwind at a table flanked by dramatic rocks and lush greenery and watch the sun go down.

Beach House, Playa d’en Bossa

Bask, bathe and unwind at Beachouse, an elegant spot on the Ibiza coastline, which offers attentive waiter service direct to your daybed or sofa. The dappled waters of the Mediterranean provide the perfect backdrop for a long, lazy day of lounging and relaxation, and if you get peckish their kitchen serves authentic Italian cuisine.

Blue Marlin, Cala Jondal

Set on the beautiful pebbly beach of Cala Jondal, Blue Marlin’s outdoor areas are the place to live it up VIP-style. Hosting some of the best beach parties of the summer season, head there on the weekend to party and in the week for a more chilled vibe.

Cotton Beach Club, Cala Tarida

This luxurious club on the White Isle is making Ibiza’s southwest coast the destination du jour for islanders and jetsetters. With an all-white colour palette, chic furnishings and stylish daybeds, the club has its own private sandy beach and boasts stunning views across the Med. There are changing cabins and private showers on hand so you can move comfortably from lounging to dining, before tucking into delectable sushi and fresh seafood salads.

Experimental Beach Ibiza, Cap des Falcó

With a more laid-back vibe than many of its rivals, you won’t be surrounded by the super-yacht crowd at Experimental Beach. Located on Ibiza’s south coast, get stuck in to the impressive cocktail list (try The Cocolito, a delicious blend of vodka, lime and passion fruit with pineapple and mango granita) as you recline on one of the signature pale blue sunbeds, before feasting on traditional tapas and enjoying a spot of shopping at the boho-luxe, on-site boutique.

Nassau, Playa d’en Bossa

This beach club in Playa d’en Bossa has the kind of laid-back atmosphere you can’t help but revel in. The setting combines Ibiza charm with the modern beach chic of somewhere like Miami and it’s the perfect place for a late lunch (crab salad and seafood linguine are on the menu) and copious amounts of rosé.

The Jockey Club,  Playa Salinas

If sunbathing is what you want, then make a bee-line for The Jockey Club, where they have a huge number of beach beds and parasols for hire. They don't take bookings though, so make sure you get there early.

Bonj Les Bains, Hvar

This architectural jewel from 1927 exudes retro-Mediterranean style and has been dubbed one of the hottest beach clubs in Europe. It’s easy to see why – its white-stone colonnade offers private sea pontoons where you can relax, sunbathe and enjoy a cold cocktail or two.

Mulini Beach Bar, Rovinj

Never been to the medieval town of Rovinj? The Mulini bar is just the excuse you need. Its modernist, white promenade is set right on a yacht-filled harbour and even has its own lido for quick dips. During the day waiters serve mango caipirinhas and bar food, think octopus with minty couscous and capers – and when night falls, DJs get in on the action, playing electronica that perfectly suits the old-meets-new surroundings.

Club 55, St. Tropez

This A-list hotspot is loved for its simplicity and authenticity, with a rustic-chic ‘beach bazaar’ style set right on the St. Tropez coastline. Pull out a chair, order a chilled Côtes de Provence and settle in for some celeb-spotting.

La Plage At Domaine De Murtoli, Corsica

If you hate crowds then head to this beachfront bar and restaurant instead. Accessible only to guests renting one of Domaine de Murtoli’s 11 villas, the setting is quaint, quiet and effortlessly chic with beachside furniture, textural accents gathered from local markets, stellar views and plates of spaghetti and clams, best eaten with a glass of Lillet.

Nikki Beach, St Tropez

Since opening in 2002, Nikki Beach has quickly become the go-to hot spot for international jet-setters and celebrities. Make like the style pack and head there for chilled Champagne, innovative dining, live DJs and a summer-long calendar of events.

Nammos, Psarou Beach

This prime party spot on Psarou beach is pure heaven. Have fresh, high-quality sushi platters delivered direct to your sunbed, while sipping your Champagne cocktail and enjoying the smooth sounds of some of the world’s best DJs.

Scorpios, Paraga

Greek island entertainment grows up with sophisticated Scorpios Mykonos, which draws a discerning crowd. Head to the sunset lounge for uninterrupted views of the sea, the eastern terrace to see the sunset or try out the food at the on-site restaurant, based in a weather-beaten stone house.

PuroBeach Pala Mallorca, Palma

Head to PuroBeach to chill in luxury surroundings, dine on fresh salads and lobster by the pool, and sip on classic cocktails in style. With a restaurant, bar, spa and boutique, plus regular all-day DJ-led events, this is one of Mallorca’s top beachside venues.

Zhero Beach Club, Palma

Chilled-out vibes, delicious small plates and a swimming pool with views across the bay of Palma are the USP of Zhero. Take your pick from sun loungers and day beds and have your G&T served to you as and when you like.

Mhares Sea Club, Llucmajor

An oasis of tranquillity, Mhares Sea Club overlooks stretches of golden sands and the glistening Mediterranean Sea – it’s one of the most idyllic spots on the island to catch the picturesque sunsets. The sea is just a 50m stroll from the comfort of your sun lounger, of if you’re feeling particularly indulgent, there are hammocks and beds available to book, for the ultimate beach day. Cocktails and sunset parties are a must at this Majorcan hangout, so head here for party vibes.

Nassau Beach Club, Palma

Boasting spectacular views of Palma’s cathedral and the harbour of Portixol, this cosmopolitan beach club is famed for its delicious food and glorious setting. Located just outside the city of Palma, Nassau is easy to get to, and the ideal spot to spend a day lazing in the sun. You’ll find comfy loungers scattered on the white sandy beach where you can enjoy a cocktail or two whilst soaking up the rays. And if you feel peckish, there’s a delicious menu of Asian and Mediterranean cuisine.

Nikki Beach, Palma

This is where you’ll find Majorca's coolest crowds, bronzing themselves on plush lounge sunbeds, sipping Champagne on the beach, and dancing to epic DJ sets. Relaxed, sophisticated and chic, go from dinner to sunset drinks to late-night dance offs without having to change location.

Beso Beach, Playa de Cavall d’en Borràs

Set in the dunes just south of Es Moli de Sal, this fun beach bar serves up strong cocktails, live DJs and languid lunches that go on long into the night.

Flipper & Chiller, Migjorn

This kitschy joint is one of a new breed of chiringuitos and sits just along from the famous Gecko Beach Club. It's a beauty, perfumed by wild rosemary that grows on the foreshore, with designer driftwood daybeds and open sea views, and a roof terrace ideal for relaxing with a caipirinha in hand whilst you watch the dramatic sunset.

10 Punto 7, Migjorn

On a completely empty stretch of Migjorn beach, 10 Punto 7 feels like a brilliant secret find. With its clean lines, white director's chairs and bleached decking, offset against the cobalt blue waters below, you’ll be hard pushed to find a better view in the whole of Formentera.  Be sure to try the stunning plates of sushi and sashimi from Osaka-born chef Masahito Kanayama, and late in the afternoon, head to the roof terrace with an Aperol spritz for uninterrupted sunset views.

Gecko Hotel & Beach Club, Migjorn

A white-and-sky blue colour scheme lends a sophisticated vibe to Gecko Beach Club, but the real draw is its paradise beach with powdery white sand and warm, crystal-clear water. Loungers and cabanas are dotted around the lawn and pool areas, and sundowners are served generously at the beachside bar.

Boo, Playa Nova Mar Bella

Boo is the closest you’ll get to dining at sea without having to leave the shore. Set on a pier, this ritzy beach club has been designed to replicate an art deco ship, so if you’ve got your seafaring hat on, you’ll feel right at home. The terrace is a suntrap – gaze at the panoramic vista, or rent an exclusive hammock and drift into a peaceful siesta.

Vai Moana, Playa Bogatell

This Bogatell beach bar is a hit with the local crowd, and you can find plenty of tasty Mediterranean snacks on their menu, funky tunes in the evening and a cool surfer vibe during the day.

Bambú, Playa Levante

Inspired by the Chinese art of Feng Shui, Bambú – located on Llevant Beach – promises relaxed beach vibes, glorious views and killer cocktails. During the day, you can rent parasols and sun loungers, and in the evening the bar becomes a popular cocktail haunt. You can even rent the whole chiringuito for a party, with your own catering and music.

Purobeach, Passeig del Taulat

With 17 Balinese day beds (as well as standard sunbeds), a luxe swimming pool, outdoor bar, restaurant and massages available on request, Purobeach’s urban oasis brings a taste of poolside luxury to the big city.

Salt, Passeig Mare Nostrum

The W Hotel’s swanky beach-club-cum-restaurant is a Barcelonan gem. Relax on the terrace and sample the delectable Californian-inspired fare, and if you’re looking for a party, keep Friday and Saturday night free for their sunset sessions, where you can look forward to live DJ sets playing laid-back grooves against a stunning sunset backdrop.
