Dormy House, Cotswolds

Boutique hotel Dormy House is a stone’s throw from the picturesque Cotswold villages of Broadway, Chipping Camden and Moreton-in-Marsh. The hotel isn't new but a £10m renovation to transform the 17th-Century farmhouse has resulted in it being one of the UK's most luxurious country hotels, no matter what the occasion. Each of the 40 rooms and suites are individual, chic and cosy.

The King’s Head Hotel, Cirencester

This hotel, located in the heart of Cirencester town, re-opened in September 2014 as a five-star contemporary and elegant destination. Formerly an 80-room hotel, its 45 bedrooms are stylish, comfortable and spacious at all levels – perfect for curling up with a paper and enjoying afternoon tea. The head chef at the restaurant has worked with Gordon Ramsay, and the recently opened spa offers a range of pampering treatments using Lubatti products.

Salcombe Harbour Hotel, Devon

This waterside stay in south Devon has a classic British yacht club feel, with sea-to-plate dining and a harbour setting. Rooms have a swish seaside aesthetic, decked out in blue and white, with driftwood and wicker furnishings, and coastal-kitsch knick-knacks, while other perks include a traditional afternoon tea, holistic Espa treatments and comfort food from trawlerman-turned-chef Alex Aitken.

Zetter Townhouse, Marylebone, London

Hot on Chiltern Firehouse's heels as the place to see and be seen, Zetter Townhouse Marylebone scores major points for its eclectic, eccentric-Grandmother interiors and lively Seymour's Parlour bar. It’s easy to miss on a residential road in Marylebone (look for the slate grey door) but once inside you'll be rewarded with tipples from modern-day alchemist Tony Conigliari, sumptuous rooms and delicious food. So good, you won’t want to leave all weekend…

HEAD TO EUROPE FOR A BANK HOLIDAY BREAK...

ABaC Restaurant and Hotel, Barcelona, Spain

At ABaC you can head straight from sampling a 13-course tasting menu created by Michelin-starred chef Jordi Cruz to your white and gleaming bedroom, or down to the equally pristine subterranean Elemis spa.

Casacau, Rome, Italy

With its terrific Trevi setting and boutique-style apartments, Casacau has everything you need for a stay in Rome. Inside, rooms are decked out with vintage finds and flamboyant ‘60s décor, while the Mid-Century Modern kitchenettes provide self-catering flexibility.

Hotel Crillon Le Brave, Provence, France

Settings don’t get much more quintessentially French than at this charming hotel, tucked in among the vineyards of Provence. Land of Van Gogh, wine-tasting and cheese, foodies, art appreciators and pool-goers alike are guaranteed a break of relaxation and tranquillity.

Miss Clara, Stockholm, Sweden

Miss Clara began life as a girl’s school when it was built in 1910 and it retains plenty of its dainty Art Nouveau features in its tasteful remodelling. Serenely simple rooms and eye-catching artwork (not to mention the retro bar’s cocktails) make it one hell of a class act.
