Not all the world’s most stylish women are bloggers or Instgram stars. Take Yulia Rorstrom, Founder of hair care line and salon franchise Duck & Dry, whose working wardrobe with its effortless elegance and relaxed professionalism, naturally caught our eye. Never ones to pass up the opportunity for some serious fashion inspo, we asked Yulia to give us the scoop on her style secrets and show us what she typically wears during a working week…
How would you describe your everyday style?
It totally varies on my mood – sometimes I go for casual jeans and jackets but at other times I really like wearing elegant, tailored dresses. Overall my wardrobe is smart-casual with a lot of classic pieces, rather than purely trend focused.
Flats or heels for everyday?
Now we have two Duck & Dry stores I’m on the move everyday – plus I’m 23 weeks pregnant – so flats are more practical! However, I love the lift heels can give an outfit and the boost they give your confidence, so I still try to wear heels as often as possible.
What's the first thing you start with when choosing an outfit?
Living in rarely-warm London, I actually often decide on my whole look depending on the coat I fancy wearing. I have a separate wardrobe with just my coats, jackets and gilets as I wear those all year round.
What do you wear for an important meeting?
I go for something sophisticated yet feminine, so it is likely to be a tailored dress with high heels and a great handbag.
What's your favourite look from our shoot and why?
I love my burgundy leather leggings as they’re so versatile. I wear them from work to a party with just a change of shoes or accessories.
What's your go-to off duty look?
I am obsessed with my Anine Bing boyfriend jeans that I got in LA this summer, plus a baggy jumper in any colour from Bimba y Lola and a chunky scarf.
What are your key tips for transitioning from day to night?
Heels are a must for me at night, as is a touch of sparkle, whether that means a small clutch bag or a statement necklace.
Any beauty tips for looking pulled-together in a hurry?
I am never without Duck & Dry OOMPH! Dry Texture Spray as it adds an instant tousled, sexy look and volume to any blow-dry.
What key pieces should every working woman invest in?
A classic jacket, either cropped or a blazer, in a classic colour like charcoal grey or black that goes with everything and makes a sophisticated statement.
Where do you shop on the high street for work wear?
There are quite a few brands that I like but it varies from season to season. I like shirts from COS, jumpers from Bimba y Lola, dresses from Sandro and Orla Kiely...
What do you wear on a night out?
Leather leggings with a tailored top, always.
What's been your best purchase of the season so far?
I love my red Phillip Lim slippers – they’re fun and comfortable.
Best recent high-end investments?
A one-shoulder cocktail dress from Peter Pilotto for Duck & Dry's new store launch – it’s classic and elegant.
What are you looking forward to wearing again come spring?
White! I have a lot of white and cream in my wardrobe and it comes out with the first sunshine in spring.
Has your style changed since becoming a mum?
Not particularly, I probably wear rather impractical clothes even when out with my son but I want to stay true to my style.
How will you adapt your style through your pregnancy?
I don’t tend to buy maternity clothes, instead wearing more floaty and A-line pieces.
Any advice for pregnant ladies not wanting to invest in maternity wear?
Buy a size bigger and it can still be worn afterwards as a casual, oversized look. COS is great for it as they have lots of baggy pieces.
