We spoke to the experts at Secret Linen Store to find out more about the brand that will give your sleep a serious boost…

Tell us about Secret Linen Store…

Created by sisters Molly and Harriet, the Secret Linen Store is a one-stop shop for beautiful, 100% cotton bedding. Being exclusively online and working directly with the best factories in Portugal, we can produce luxury bed linen for less. The ethos is to make bedtime the best time for all, with Molly and Harriet believing sleep should be cherished.

And what’s the price point?

It varies depending on quality – starting with 200 thread count percale for just £30 for a king size duvet cover. At the top-end is the truly high-quality linen, the 600 thread count Luxury Plain bedding, available in silver or white, is £110 for a king size duvet cover, and has a beautiful mitred oxford edge. For a full set, the price ranges from £59 to £200.

What styles can you expect?

The store carries a range of styles, from plain to patterned and everything in between, and with a host of different finishes to choose from there’s sure to be something to suit your abode.

Favourites include the Luxury Plain style in white and silver, the teasels pattern in grey (which has been a featured pattern ever since the brand's inception) or, for something slightly more unusual, the denim ranges are cool and cosy, with a soft, brushed finish.

What should you look for when buying quality bedding without spending a fortune?

Thread count is important but not the be all and end all of great quality – the yarns we use are just as crucial. Our 200 thread count is a great, durable basic that will last for ever but the 600 threat count is a luxurious treat that has to be experienced. Don’t rely solely on the thread count to determine quality, as there are many products out there with very high thread counts that have been achieved by twisting finer yarns, whereas the thicker yarns provide a high-end finish.

Any rules when it comes to styling?

Just one: there is no such thing as too many pillows or too many sets of bed linen. Style to your own taste, but we recommend that you mix and match pillows with subtle stripes and different designs, just ensure you have plain styles as a base to interlace with patterns. Simple colours will remain classic, and you can add texture and colour with accessories and throws that you can change.

Should you have different linens for summer and winter, not just different duvets?

Bedding will make a difference when it comes to keeping you cool or keeping you warm throughout the changing seasons. Percale and sateen-finished bedding will be cooler in the summer as it has a smooth surface and our relaxed denim collections have a brushed finish, making them cosy for when it’s cold outside.

Any final tips for caring for bedding?

Don’t tumble dry your linen until it’s bone dry, it won’t help with ironing (it will come out extremely creased) and the life of your bedding will be shorter. Drying flat or on the line is best, but if you need to tumble dry, take it out when it is still a little damp and finish drying on a radiator or rack.
