How To Wear Yellow

Favourites 16

It might be one of this season’s hottest shades (everyone from Altuzarra to De La Renta featured it on the runway for SS17), but that doens't make yellow easy to pull off. Want to work the look this season? Just follow our simple rules for getting it right…

Bottom Only

If you steer clear of yellow for fear of being washed out, simply team a skirt in the shade with a top or jumper in a more flattering colour – as this will be closer to your face, you’ll avoid looking too pale.

Try A Pattern

Bright yellow is a lot less intimidating when it comes in a statement pattern, so look for busy prints to dilute the shade. Team with block colours to avoid a fussy look.

Stick To Accessories

Stick to the wisdom that less is more by opting for a colour pop accessory. Adding a bright yellow bag or shoe to a simple jeans and tee edit will give it a fashion forward spin.

Go Floaty

Pairing rigid structures with bright shades can feel a little harsh, so stick to ethereal, romantic fabrics to pull off yellow with a feminine finish. We love the maxi dress look, or turn to Elizabeth & James for elegant silk tops.

Team With Other Brights

Perversely, wearing bright colours together detracts from any one in particular, creating a softer finish. Whether it’s this season’s must-have hot pink or rainbow stripes, pair a canary yellow piece with other bright shades for a playful outfit.
