How To Detox Your Hair

Favourites 17

While we religiously stick to a skincare regime, for too many of us, the same can’t be said for haircare. But with pollution, sun damage and build-up from styling products all too common, revising our tresses should really be a priority. Step forward Josh Wood’s City Detox, a brand-new treatment developed to restore health, shine and vibrancy to stressed-out strands. We booked in to check it out...

What makes the treatment different?

Containing a blend of antioxidants, vitamins and crystals, the treatment draws out negative mineral deposits, chlorine, pollution and other impurities from the hair and scalp, improving tone, texture and strength.

What does it involve?

Following a consultation, a vitamin C crystal treatment was applied to our hair, which was then wrapped in plastic before being put under heat for ten minutes. We were impressed to hear the entire treatment is 100% vegan and formulated without sulphates or parabens, making it suitable for even the most sensitive of scalps. This solution was then shampooed out before a mango kernel oil masque was worked into the hair (which smelt sublime) to add gloss and shine; after a final ten minutes under the heat, this was washed out and we were done. The entire treatment takes around 30 minutes, making it an ideal mid-week boost.

And does it work?

Yes – having been bleach-bottle blonde for years we were pretty sceptical about treatment’s claims. We booked in the week before our roots were due to be done (around the eight-week mark, when our hair is usually in need of a decent refresh) and were blown away by the results. Our strands were left super-shiny and soft (a tricky thing to manage with dyed blonde hair), and the colour was so bright we even considered cancelling our colour appointment the following week.

How long does it last?

Up to six weeks, making it the ideal treatment to either bolt on to your trim or to boost the longevity of your highlights in-between appointments.

Who’s it for?

As blonde hair is more porous, meaning it's more likely to become dull and lifeless, those with lighter locks will undoubtedly see benefits. At the same time, city dwellers, swimmers, spa users and those with sensitive scalps should make a beeline for the treatment, for healthier, more vibrant hair.

Is it worth it?

Absolutely – for £55, this treatment is worth every penny and we’d definitely book in again before a wedding or holiday. While the treatment doesn’t include a blow-dry (from £35 extra), taking an hour out at the Atelier in itself is sheer bliss – set in a Notting Hill mews house, the salon’s interiors were designed by Soho House and staff are on hand to cater for your every need, whether it’s a head massage or posh cheese toastie, you’re in good hands.
