How To Get Perfect Undone Beach Waves

Favourites 26

Who doesn’t want ‘I-just-woke-up-like-this’ beachy waves? Whilst the laid-back LA look may look decidedly dishevelled, in reality, it takes far more than a scrunch and a spritz of salt spray in the morning to achieve. This summer, bring those bed head waves down a notch by embracing the ‘yester-wave’ – the beachy wave’s cooler, more rock ‘n’ roll sister. The hint is in the name, but this look is all about lived-in locks and girls with far better plans than washing their hair on day two. We spoke with Sam Burnett, session stylist star and Founder of leading London salon HARE&BONE, to find out how to recreate the look at home.

What is the yester-wave?

“A styling technique that creates the illusion of undone waves, the second day”, says Sam. “It’s the no-effort hair we all want. Think less structure, more texture.”

How do you create it?

  1. Prep the hair with KMS Sea Salt Spray to create a gritty, workable texture.

  2. Using a dual directional tonging technique, alternate the direction of the tongs inwards and then outwards on the same section of hair. Opt for large or small sections depending on the desired result and finish with KMS Hairplay Playable Texture.

  3. Brush the hair out with your fingers to ensure it doesn’t look too ‘done’.
