8 Simple Ways To Feel Better About Yourself

Favourites 37

Most people would agree their self-esteem could do with a bit of a boost from time to time, and whilst there’s not always an easy fix, there are a few simple tricks to keep your confidence at an all-time high…

Identify the positives

When your mind is clouded by negative thoughts, it can be difficult to see through the haze. Try and keep track of the positives – identify the things you know you’re good at, or the things you’ve done well that day or that week. This way, you can tap into the things in your life that make you feel accomplished, positive, happy and confident and start to move your energy towards them.

Recognise What You’re Good At

Stop telling yourself you’re bad at everything, because it can’t be true. Be it cooking, organising, reading, being a good friend – recognise your strengths, and play to them. Knowing you’re doing well is bound to boost confidence.

Be Kind To Yourself

Give yourself a good pep talk. Treat yourself as you would a friend, what would you say to a loved one when they need support? Tell yourself the same.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

Some people get a kick out of bringing others down. If you’re not feeling particularly good about yourself, it’s probably best to avoid them for a while or let them know how they make you feel. Be sure to surround yourself with friends and family who always make you smile.

Tell People How You Feel

A problem shared is a problem halved, talking things out can be very positive. Often, we build things up in our head, but once we’ve let it out to someone else, things can seem much more manageable. If they’re a good friend, they’ll be honest with you, offer support and might be able to give some helpful advice.

Learn To Be Assertive

Learn to say no. When you’re feeling low, you can find yourself trying to please others and put on a front to keep up appearances. Your wellbeing is the most important thing and you should be doing everything in your power to make yourself feel happy, confident and on an even keel. If doing something for someone else will make you feel good then do it, but if you’re worried it will cause more hassle than it’s worth, just say no. You need to focus all your energy on yourself. You’ll feel better for it in the long run.

Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

It’s easy to wish you had another life; most people dream of a successful career, endless money, a great relationship or a killer body – but the truth of the matter is, who really cares? You’re the one giving yourself a hard time for not having certain things – no one else. You probably have plenty to be grateful for, and who knows what will happen in the future – it’s just a matter of perspective. If you have goals you want to achieve, make a plan and start to move towards them.

Set Yourself A Challenge

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, even when it feels like the last thing you want to do, will give you a boost. It doesn’t have to be anything big, even a new fitness class can make the world of difference – take up a new hobby, try cooking a new recipe or join a local group to meet new people.
