Tell us more...
A good gel manicure can easily last two weeks, but regular trips to the salon will leave you and your bank balance on bad terms. That’s where Le Mini Macaron comes in, providing everything you need for a long-lasting at-home mani.
The kit comes with an LED lamp (shaped liked a French macaron) and prep kit, including a mini nail file, cuticle stick and pre-soaked removal pads. What’s more, each pack comes with a 3-in-1 polish (meaning there’s no need for a separate base and top coat) matching the colour of the macaron, although polishes can also be bought separately for £11.36. The current line-up includes a pillar-box red, deep berry, pale peach and a glossy pale rose crème, among others.
Is it as good as a professional gel mani?
While the brush guarantees a really even application, we were a little dubious about putting our gels on without having a professional prep our cuticles first. However, the results stand up to an in-salon mani and seven days in, ours are still going strong.
How long does it take?
Although you have to set each nail separately, a mani can be done in just over ten minutes. The lamp is powered via a USB cord, so simply plug into your laptop for al-desko nails or pair with your iPhone charger for grooming on the go.
Any tips for using it?
Don’t be tempted to paint the polish too thickly as this can lead to peeling; try doing three really thin coats instead of one thick one for professional results. Also, be sure to pay attention to the tips of your nails – run the brush horizontally across the top edge of the nail to seal the ends in order to prevent chips and for a sleeker finish.
Who’s it for?
If you’ve been tempted by an at-home gel nail kit in the past, we highly recommend you make a bee-line for Le Mini Macaron. Unlike its (often highly priced) competitors, the kit is surprisingly easy to use and weighs next to nothing, making it ideal for packing in your carry-on for holidays and weekends away.
Le Mini Macron, £26.50, individual polishes are £11.99 each.
