The Women To Watch In 2018 |
Favourites 6

Already dubbed the ‘year of the woman’, 2018 looks set to bring real change – women’s voices are finally being heard, and we have a hell of a lot to say. So to celebrate, we’ve rounded up six inspirational women set to take over this year – from fashion bloggers and models to watch, to women fighting sexism in politics and workplace harassment…

Charli Howard

Model and body positive activist Charli Howard has seen her career go from strength to strength since 2015, when she posted a brave open letter to her ex-modelling agency who fired her for being too “big”. 2018 sees the publication of Howard’s first book, Misfit, released on 22nd February, in which she speaks out about the unrealistic standards of the industry and shares advice for feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Adwoa Aboah

2017’s Model of the Year, and the first cover star of Edward Enninful’s new Vogue, Adwoa Aboah is the supermodel to keep an eye on in 2018. Look forward to seeing more of her Juergen Teller-shot campaign for Burberry and the growth of her Gurls Talk organisation, something Aboah describes as “a safe space for girls to share and listen without any judgement or stigma”.

Solána Imani Rowe, aka SZA, is set to dominate the charts in 2018. So far this year, she’s been tipped to win a Grammy (the singer-songwriter has been nominated for five awards), been announced as a Coachella headliner, featured on Barack Obama’s playlist and dropped a powerful new track, ‘All the Stars’ with Kendrick Lamar – the lead single from the Black Panther movie soundtrack.

Bettina Looney

American-born, London-based fashion influencer Bettina Looney has ignited the interest of designers, magazines and a new generation of Instagram followers. Her unique style, quirky taste and penchant for comfy shoes have won over SL too. Expect to see much more of her in street style snaps and designer collaborations in 2018.

Rose McGowan

Rose McGowan was one of the first women to speak out about Harvey Weinstein, helping to ignite a huge revolution in Hollywood and beyond. This year, the actress and #MeToo movement supporter is sharing her full story – in the form of her autobiography, Brave, and five-part docuseries, Citizen Rose, both released on 30th January.

Solveiga Pakštaitė

Set to revolutionalise the food industry in 2018 is Solveiga Pakštaitė, the British-based innovator who Founded Mimica Touch – a bio-reactive, tactile expiry date label that helps reduce food wastage by indicating when products actually go bad. On January 2nd this year, the company received its first patent, meaning they could hit supermarket shelves very soon.
