We’re here to help you make the most of your favourite affordable stores – from tailoring at Zara to shirting at Cos, here’s what to buy from where on the high street.
Why: It’s hard to get tailoring right at a low price point, but Zara’s double-breasted blazers, work-ready jackets and structured suits are a cut above the rest. Honed over myriad seasons, this spring/summer features some of our favourites yet, with designer-inspired pastels and on-trend checks all in the mix.
Marks & Spencer
Why: Most high street stores have jumped on the cashmere bandwagon this winter, but none do it with the finesse of the UK’s favourite department store. The key is to avoid paying under £100 for lesser quality – M&S keeps their sweaters affordable whilst not compromising on style and comfort.
Why: Topshop’s denim never fails to impress, delivering year after year on new season styles – right now that means killer boyfriends, kick flares, straight legs and trustworthy skinnies.
& Other Stories
Why: Still somewhat under the radar, & Other Stories’ dresses not only nail the trends, but your friends are also less likely to have them. Right now, we’re coveting floor-skimming floral maxis and senorita-style ruffles for transitional points.
Why: Zara’s grown-up sister label is a particular hero for statement jewellery – think killer earrings, show-stopping necklaces and cocktail rings. With slightly higher price points than other high street brands (expect to pay around £50 per piece), you get your money’s worth.
Buy: Leather Jackets
Why: They may not be cheap, but no one does leather jackets like Whistles. We rate the butter soft leather, flattering crop and cool silver hardware above all competitors – if you’re looking for an investment piece that won’t break the bank, this is the brand to shop.
Why: There’s nothing worse than a thin, shapeless white shirt, but there’s no risk of this lesser quality with Cos. A hero for oversized, androgynous pieces, everything from mandarin collar, cinch waist designs to classic boyfriend cuts gets our vote.
Buy: Trend led pieces
Why: Whether it’s a designer bag or a high-end pair of shoes you’ve fallen for, finding a doppelganger at Mango is nearly always a safe bet. This season we’re coveting Birkin straw bags and pastel suiting, along with luxe accessories for budget-friendly prices.
