Our Fashion Editor’s Picks Of The Month

From high street accessories to lust-worthy new collections, SL’s Fashion Editor Charlotte Collins runs you through this month’s must-have, must-know and must-see fashion…

The Accessory

October may not typically be the time of year to stock up on sunnies, but who can resist Chloé’s new styles? Their rose-tinted round frames have long been a favourite of those with a penchant for flares and corduroy (that means you, Rachel Zoe), but hexagonal and scalloped designs are bringing a fresh approach – perfect with this season’s plethora of 70s-inspired trends.

The Bridal Collection

Creative Director Carly Cushnie has dropped the ‘et Ochs’ from her eponymous brand name just in time for the launch of her new bridal collection. Brides looking for a mix of modern and feminine will love her sleek, grown-up designs – simple, dramatic and cool, if I hadn’t already chosen my dress, it’s the collection I’d be looking to…

The Collection To Pre-Order

We’ll get to some autumn fashion, I promise, but Cult US label LoveShackFancy’s SS19 pieces are just too good not to mention. The brand frequently launches new collections on luxury trunk sale site Moda Operandi, and despite the May ’19 delivery date, it’s well worth snapping up heavenly florals and pretty ruffles to get ahead of your summer wardrobe.

The Event To Watch Out For

May’s set to be a busy fashion month – first, your new LoveShackFancy pieces will finally arrive, and secondly the Met Ball will take place once again. Held annually on the first Monday of the month, this year’s theme was announced last week; Anna Wintour, along with guest hosts Lady Gaga, Serena Williams and Harry Styles, will celebrate the Costume Institute’s exhibition, Camp: Notes on Fashion. Curator Andrew Bolton told US Vogue the theme felt “timely with what we are going through culturally and politically”.

The Instagram Follow

Net-a-Porter’s Fashion Director Lisa Aiken gets a lot of air time on Instagram, but it’s her under-the-radar colleague we’re looking to for inspo right now. Elizabeth Von Der Goltz is the brand’s Global Buying Director, meaning she’s one of the few women setting the agenda for what we buy and wear; her Instagram is a mix of her best street style outfits and more candid industry snapshots, making her a must-follow for fashion obsessives.

The Jewellery Collection

Spanish label Uterqüe has never shied away from statement jewellery, and this season’s it’s taken maximalist to a new level, with a heavy dose of pearls and crystals. Don’t be afraid to embrace the baroque-inspired look for winter; nothing glams up all-black-everything like a killer choker and cuff.

The Knitwear Trend

Sleeves are so last year – it’s all about the knitted vest right now. Ok, so it’s still worth hanging onto your conventional knitwear, but for a more fashion forward look we love one of these roll neck styles worn over white shirting or a simple tee.

The Hero Jacket

Bikers aren’t for everyone, but thanks to Burberry, Dior, Coach and more, there’s now a more feminine way to layer up in leather. Forget Matrix connotations – this season’s styles are structured, midi-length and impossibly smart, with seamless finishes and decadent colour palettes. Reiss’ Roma design has been the talk of the office this week.

The Colour Trend

Gen Z yellow may have been big news earlier in the year, but grown-ups are looking to mustard for a more sophisticated, autumnal take. From satin to velvet, you have to be willing to embrace decadence to make this work; just add accompanying jewel tones for undeniable glamour.
