Style Decoded: Giorgia Tordini

This isn’t the first time we’ve referenced Giorgia Tordini’s style, but when the Attico designer, street style star and brand muse perpetually nails it on Instagram and the FROW alike, she’s impossible not to mention...

A Milan native, it’s her Italian ability to strike a balance between elegant and cool which has our fashion team hooked. No one can pull off satin maxi dresses in the daytime, or elevate a blazer, or make thigh-high snake print boots look casual quite like Tordini – she dips her toe into edgy territory, whilst always remaining impossibly polished and pulled-together. As MATCHESFASHION put it in a 2016 interview, she ‘subvert(s) traditional dress codes for the modern millennial’.

Obsessed yet? Here’s the good news – even though her wardrobe may lean on the expensive side (Attico dresses and accessories don’t come cheap) that doesn’t procure you from getting her look. We’ve broken down her style so, in the future, you know exactly how to emulate it…

For A Big Night Out

In true Italian style, more is more for Tordini when it comes to a big night out. The key to getting her look is picking one, show-stopping piece, be it head-to-toe pink feathers, a leather midi dress or killer white boots, and then building the rest of your look around it – a well-placed black belt here, a choice hair accessory there. Note how her beauty look is always pared back – even with the most dramatic of outfits, there’s not a red lip in sight.

By The Beach

This is the one place where the designer keeps it simple. No fussy accessories, no busy prints or colour patterns – she sticks to relaxed neutrals in natural fabrics which creates the illusion of being an island native. Exceptions are made for select pieces of chunky gold jewellery, which is what injects that Italian glamour, but they’re perfectly juxtaposed by casual, unfeminine footwear and messy beach waves.

Everyday Polish

Polish is the right word – from sharp tailoring to elegant footwear, Tordini never puts a foot wrong, even on off-duty days. The key is never letting standards slide; even at her most casual, she’ll still be wearing a great piece of suiting, or a smart kitten heel. Despite being seemingly pared-back, accessories are also key to tying her look together – chunky cuffs and statement handbags add an injection of savvy to simple jeans-and-a-white tee edits. The other most important factor: colour blocking. Forget busy prints, bright shades and mismatched patterns – a uniform palette creates that sophisticated aesthetic.

Fashion Events

Your diary may not be as full of fashion events as the designer and influencer’s, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to learn from how she dresses up for a big occasion. Again, note the lack of colour – if anything, she veers towards mostly black for an industry event – which is what permits her to be that bit more experimental with shapes, cuts and fabrics. That belted robe would be seriously OTT if it wasn’t for its dark hue, whilst the PVC mac would veer into tacky territory in any other shade – sticking to all-black-everything means snakeskin boots, statement bras and It handbags all have their moment to shine.
