SOAK UP SUMMER HERE: BOB’s Lobster

Having made a name for itself as a superlative street-food experience serving seafood at street-food markets, festivals, fashion shows and events, BOB’s Lobster has now opened in its first permanent site at London Bridge. Here, the menu channels classic Americana vibes: think moreish ahi tuna tacos, indulgent lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and the team’s original hit – a lobster and crayfish roll. Of the rest of the menu, we recommend the shrimp and grits (the best we’ve tried outside the States) and the crab stack: layers of avocado, ahi tuna, crab meat, papaya and ginger salsa and cashews, served with tortilla chips. Given the team’s connection to Bedales of Borough down the road, expect a great selection of wine available by the glass, carafe and bottle. The restaurant is fronted by a suntrap terrace, providing the perfect spot for people watching while sipping on a chilled glass of rosé.

SUPPORT A STARTUP HERE: Snackbar

Snackbar is a female-led food initiative from Freddie Janssen and Anais van Manen. The duo have ten years of experience in restaurants: Anais in the kitchen (Nuala, Trullo, Bones) and Freddie in marketing (Lyle’s) and running pop-ups across London, picking up awards for ‘Best Street Food’ at the Young British Foodie awards and ‘Best In Taste’ at Taste of London. In order to raise £20,000 for their forthcoming cafe, urban farm and co-working space in Dalston, the duo have launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, where donors can buy a spot at a series of chef collaborations. These events include dinner with Nuno Mendes (Maos, Chiltern Firehouse), James Lowe (Lyle’s), Nud Dudhia (Breddos Tacos) and Merlin Labron-Johnson (The Conduit), where each chef will cook a menu around a theme of their choice. The events will take place on Sundays between September 2019 and February 2020, but the campaign ends next week – so support them while you can.
