The Fashion Guitar Launches Collection For Amazon
The site has launched The Drop, a platform that creates collaborations between the Amazon Fashion design team and some of the world’s coolest influencers and trend setters shoppable. Each collection is available for just 30 hours, or until the fabric runs out – that’s the site’s clever trick to keep sustainability at the forefront of the production. A win for the environment and a win for fashion fans too.
The latest influencer to launch a collection with the site is Charlotte Groenveld, AKA the Fashion Guitar, a stalwart on the street style scene for the best part of a decade. An OG in the Instagram world, she’s renowned for her high/low approach to dressing – think a tulle skirt teamed with a chunky trainer – and now you can shop her look in an affordable way, thanks to The Drop. We got the low down on the key pieces from Charlotte herself…
Congratulations on the collection! What was your inspiration?
The collection is an extension of my wardrobe, but filling the gaps with pieces I felt were still missing. It’s inspired by today’s street style rather than runway collections - it brings together everything I love seeing on women dressed in. Princess Diana is always an inspiration to me, so she influenced the collection too. It’s 14 pieces, and covers you for everything you need for Summer 2019 and beyond…
Your own fashion choices vary a lot, how did you come up with the look and feel?
I had a very clear idea on the pastel-theme. Pastels make me happy. I love combining the different soft shades and it’s the palette most suited for summer dressing. Then it was about identifying exactly what was missing in my own wardrobe; I have many beautiful dresses, but something like the maxi-dress from my collection, in a light cotton, and in a pastel shade, was noticeably absent. So, I made it.
What's your favourite piece in the collection?
I love all 14 very much. I put a lot of love in it, and I wasn’t going to settle for anything less than perfect. After all, I’m the one who’s telling everyone to wear them, so I had to really believe in my designs. It’s the realness and authenticity that is so important in my job. However, if I have to pick my faves, it would be the three maxi-dresses, and as a team we decided the green one is our hero-piece. A great prairie dress for modern day city life.
How will you be styling your hero maxi dress?
With a pair of white sneakers and a straw bag or I’ll switch the sneakers for my The Row sandals, or maybe the new Bottega Veneta mules… It’s all about the high/low styling.
And the hot pink trousers?
With a white boxy top tucked in half or a tank top in summer. And in winter with an oversized chunky knit in navy.
What was the best thing about designing a collection for Amazon?
Amazon is the perfect combination of tech and fashion.
What’s your favourite thing in your wardrobe?
At the moment a Marc Jacobs Runway mini dress, my Chanel sand bag and Adidas sneakers.
What trends are you most looking forward to for Autumn/Winter?
I love fall colours such as navy, olive green and burgundy, but I also saw some bright pink fuchsia suiting, so I’m definitely going to try that with my own pair of trousers from my collection.
And finally, what's the secret to good style?
Know your body, know your colours and don’t be afraid to try new looks.
