Slip Into Style Summer Fashion Tips

With her penchant for bright rainbow stripes, acid-hued accessories and killer evening dresses, it’s hard to miss Slip Into Style on Instagram.

The Paris-based blogger is a team SL favourite for her fearless approach to fashion, whether it’s her bold take on trends (there’s been a lot of denim cycling short action on her grid lately) or her championing of clashing colours. We sat down with Ellie to chat her summer heroes, her autumn must-haves, and how she styles those cycling shorts…

Let’s talk about your personal style…

My style is eclectic, colourful, feminine and man-repelling at the same time. I can easily go from very girly dresses and heels to an edgier look with chunky Dr Martens

My favourite pieces this summer have been

This summer, I’ve been obsessed with floss heels and naked shoes – so elegant. I’ve been teaming mine with a sarong skirt. I’ve also been wearing an oversized silk scarf by US brand Man Repeller on repeat; as a top, a skirt, a headwrap – you name it! They’re so versatile.

Any surprising summer buys?

I bought jelly sandals adorned with shells from a French brand called Amelie Pichard earlier this season. A lot of people rolled their eyes at me, but to me they’re a must-have in any wardrobe; they’re comfy, easy to style and wear and they remind me of my childhood in the Caribbean. I’m surprised it took me so long to buy a pair.

Which brands are you loving at the moment?

I rely on dresses for summer; I bring out Réalisation Par’s patterned styles year after year. They literally work for every occasion. Mirae is a really cool French brand with the chicest summer dresses, and I also recently discovered German brand Horror Vacui, and fell in love with their loose maxi floral dresses. Topshop is great for affordable styles, plus I recommend checking out the Nanushka sale.

What are your top beach styling tips?

When it comes to looking good on the beach, sunglasses are an essential - the bigger the better! They instantly make everything look chic. Raybans are my absolute go-to. A basket bag and flip flops are also always in my holiday repertoire. And a slip dress, low-heeled mules and a basket bag are my holiday evening formula.

A beachwear brand you love?

I love high waisted swimwear this season – it’s really flattering on me, and is great when I feel like I need to cover up a bit but still feel sexy. Brands I love include Solid and Striped and Dos Gardenias

What tips for nailing wedding guests style?

For weddings and events, a solid floral dress or anything in bright colours is perfect. I wore a pink Celine cape dress to the last wedding I went to, and it looked amazing.

How have you switched up shorts this summer?

I wore a lot of cycling shorts last summer, but this year I’ve replaced them with over the knee denim styles. I add a t-shirt, blazer and mid-height heel for a polished balance.

What are the five pieces you always have in your wardrobe?

I have five year-round wardrobe essentials. They are: a good pair of jeans you can either dress up or down, a smart blazer you can wear over a t-shirt or a slip dress, chunky sneakers for when I’m in the mood for a Scandinavian look, graphic tees in many colours when you don’t know what to wear or feel lazy (just throw one on and voilà) and a mini handbag because they’re just too cute not to have in your wardrobe.

What do you buy on the high street?

ASOS is my go-to for blazers. They’re affordable, and you can style them a million different ways. On the high street I also buy jeans and plain t-shirts.

Which trends will you be trying for Autumn/Winter?

For Autumn/Winter, I’m excited about boots, trench coats, chunky knits and puffer jackets, but highest on my wish list are Manu Atelier’s laced leather ankle boots – everyone should be buying a pair.

I’ve learned to be selective

I’d tell my 20-year-old self not to buy all the trends out there. Invest in pieces you will wear all the time not for one season only.

Whose style do you admire?

My style icon is, hands down, Giovanna Battaglia. She embodies Italian chic and I want to wear everything she wears.

Who is your favourite person to follow on the gram right now?

They are so many, I can’t pick just one! Katya Gousset, Blanca Miro and Lucy Williams are all up there.

The secret to good style is this

The secret to good style is not to be too influenced by everything you see on social media. Go for what you feel comfortable in and what you like. And if I had to pick a style rule? There are no rules. The sky is the limit.
