Where To Go For Beauty & Wellness In New York

Where To Go For Beauty & Wellness In New York

Offering some of the world’s biggest make-up stores, salons, spas and quirky nail bars, New York is the beauty destination that seriously delivers. From Glossier’s showroom to Aedes niche fragrance store, we’ve devised the ultimate black book of places worth visiting in the Big Apple…

FOR ALL THINGS GLOSSIER

Head To: The Glossier Showroom

Glossier fans are still awaiting a UK pop-up – and even then, it will be short-lived – so a trip to their flagship store is mandatory if you’re in NY. Not only can you stock up on all your favourites, it’s a real treat for the senses and great for the ‘gram, thanks to pastel-pink plaster walls and a red quartz staircase. Get there as early as you can as the queues are endless.

FOR SERIOUSLY CHIC NAILS

Head To: Paintbox

One of New York’s most popular nail bars, Paintbox has earned itself a solid reputation among industry insiders and is a firm favourite among beauty editors. While they specialise in elegant nail art (seriously, it’s the best we’ve had), they also offer single colour manicures with the glossiest finish you’ll see. Plus, they really go the distance and last up to three weeks. Prices start from roughly £35, but trust us when we say it’s worth it. There are also lots of other affordable mani/pedi bars at most New York salons – you’ll find plenty on each street corner.

FOR AFFORDABLE FACIALS

Head To: Heyday

It’s hard to find affordable facials in New York, but Heyday offers some of the best in crisp white surroundings, too. They have several locations and treatment options so there is something for everyone – be it 30, 50- or 75-minute facials, depending on your needs and time limitations. Expect tailored skincare maintenance, a quick hydration boost and top tips you can incorporate into your regime after your treatment.

FOR SOME TIME OUT

Head To: Inscape Meditation Studio

Taking a more luxe, mainstream approach to meditation, this wellness studio has just arrived in New York City’s Flatiron District. It’s also available on ClassPass, and there’s plenty of different meditation classes you can try – even the most sceptical among us have fallen hard for these sessions for rebalancing and calming a weary soul. They have a great little shop too, where you can stock up on fun skincare (think Peach & Lily sheet masks), crystals and CBD buys for the ultimate wellness treat.

FOR SPA TREATMENTS

Head To: Rescue Spa

At this luxe spa, they use French brand, Biologique Recherche, which is well-known for science-heavy skincare that performs. Their in-depth menu allows everyone to reap the benefits, even the most sensitive skin types. Massages, body treatments, hair removal and pedicures are all on offer, but if we were to recommend one thing? Their signature facials cannot be beaten. Completely tailored to your skincare needs, you’ll leave with glowing results that last for days.

FOR FUN YOGA CLASSES

Head To: Y7 Studios

Hot yoga with a hip-hop twist, Y7 has rapidly expanded across New York and LA with plans to move into Chicago. Their speedy growth is testament to how fun and immersive the classes are. Set in candlelit, heated studios, it’s the best place to go for a dynamic, sculpt-and-cardio combo. Now we just need to petition for one in the UK, too.

FOR THE BEST CANDLES & BODYCARE

Head To: Bath & Body Works

On the outside, this store may not look like much, but trust us when we say they stock some of the best candles in the world. You’ll also find great gifts and body care that you’ve never heard of before, housed in some seriously covetable packaging. Plus, the fun, punchy bags you’re given with your purchases are worth the trip alone.

FOR BEAUTY STAPLES & TOP-UPS

Head To: Ulta

If you’re constantly seeking products overseas that aren’t available in the UK, Ulta should be top of your list. It’s roughly 20 minutes on the subway from Times Square, but is well worth the journey for true beauty junkies. A treasure trove of goods, you can expect to find everything from Korean skincare staples to US beauty buys you’ll want to stockpile. It’s great for the occasional celeb spot, too.

FOR SPEEDY BLOW-DRIES

Head To: Glamsquad

There are heaps of reliable blow-dry bars in New York, but many are overpriced and more about the ‘experience’ than the results. If you’re after speed, longevity and effectiveness, look to Glamsquad which takes urgent appointments and drop-ins, but also offers treatments both in the comfort of your home and hotel, too. Everything from manicures, blow-dries and make-up is on offer. For a special treat, look to Dry Bar. It was the OG blow-dry bar and remains quite expensive, but worth it if you’re in a group and it’s for a special occasion – they offer a free glass of fizz, too.

FOR NICHE FRAGRANCES

Head To: Aedes Perfumery

Located on West Fourth Street, this little perfumery is an essential pit stop for fragrance lovers. It sells over 70 different brands of atelier scents and they’re very generous when it comes to letting you play with testers and samples. You’re guaranteed to find a smell that no one else owns (certainly not in London, anyway) and feels unique to you.
