7 Christmas Markets To Visit This Season

Right now, what could be more appealing than wrapping up warm, drinking mulled wine and exploring some of the UK’s best Christmas markets. From a festival on the South Bank to Birmingham’s impressive German market and a countryside affair at Blenheim Palace, these are the markets to seek out this December…

Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market

For the full German market experience, Birmingham is your best bet. At the largest authentic market outside Germany or Austria, you can feast on schnitzels and bratwursts, washed down with glasses of glühwein. The bandstand in Victoria Square has a programme of live music and carol singers, while the neighbouring Christmas Craft Market is ideal for picking up decorations or gifts.

Bath Christmas Market

It’s now an annual tradition that Bath’s picture-perfect Georgian thoroughfares have a Christmas makeover, with more than 150 pop-up festive chalets lining the streets. The award-winning market is a great spot to pick up some local gifts and support small businesses, with 80% of stallholders from the south-west region. When shopping has taken its toll, refuel at a hog roast, snack on caramelised nuts and sip on mulled wine.

Shop local produce at the Make in Yorkshire Yuletide Village; enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a cup of hot chestnuts in the Rustic Barn in St Sampson’s Square; and browse the many alpine chalets on Parliament Street for gifts. Embrace your inner child (or take the kids) to the Victorian-style Helter Skelter at Kings Square.
