Make-Up Master Bobbi Brown Shares Her Little Black Beauty Book

Make-Up Master Bobbi Brown Shares Her Little Black Beauty Book

We all want to know what industry insiders swear by, so for this new series, we’re delving into their little black beauty books. And who better to start with than make-up master, wellness expert and founder of EVOLUTION_18, Bobbi Brown? Here, she shares her go-to colourist, the products she wouldn’t be without and why apricot oil is an important part of her regime…

For Hair Styling…

My hair is coloured monthly and I try to get a blow-dry at least once or twice a week. Because of this, a hair mask is essential. Olaplex is my current favourite – it fixes any kind of dry hair or brittleness instantly. I also love Oribe products for creating tousled texture and adding weight through the lengths.

Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector, £26

For Moisturiser…

I swear by the Augustinus Bader moisturiser – it’s a big investment, but it really delivers, and is the only expensive cream I’ve found that’s worth it. Since using it, I honestly wear less foundation than before as my skin feels and looks smoother, not to mention plumper and more refined.

Augustinus Bader The cream, £205

For Fragrance…

Chanel No.5 and Chanel Cristalle are my go-to scents and the ones I rotate throughout the year. Both are warm, heady and feel indulgent, which makes them worthy of the price tag.

Chanel Cristalle, £91

For Neat Nails…

My manicurist Roza comes to my office every two weeks or so. She paints my nails, often in a rich red or burgundy shade and she always uses Ruby Hammer’s Nail Kit – it has an amazing glass file inside which not only lasts forever, but is gentler to the nail and causes less breakage.

Ruby Hammer Nail Kit, £22

For Younger-Looking Skin…

At the moment, I’m currently mastering the benefits of The Light Salon’s LED Boost Mask. Not only is it good for skin health and strength, it feels seriously relaxing. It uses light therapy to boost collagen and the red light encourages healing and calms redness. It really works, which is brilliant for me as I don’t believe in injectables.

Light Salon's LED Boost Mask, £395

For Healing Mind & Body…

Usually, I’m in a rush and end up showering at speed. But once or twice a week, I try and take the time to fill up my tub and scatter in some Epsom salts. It’s essential for me as it really helps to relax my muscles, aid with better sleep, and above all, it forces me to kick-back and unwind.

Soakin Pure Epsom Salts, £4.25

For Ridding Pigmentation…

I notice a big difference in my skin after using the infrared sauna that’s in my back garden. I’ll do and try anything that makes me look fresher or evens out my skin. For example, I’ll get my pigmentation spots taken off with regular lasering appointments – it really does work to rid sun spots. I’ve also tried Ultherapy, but as it takes one to three months to see results, the verdict’s  still out right now. Finally, I make sure I take vitamin D, fish oil and probiotics, too – not to mention my daily Evolution_18 collagen. You should get most of your nutrition from food, but there are some things your body doesn’t make enough of, and that’s where my new supplements come in.

Evolution 18 Beauty Glow Capsules, £15

For A Cut & Colour…

Seeing my colourist is the beauty ritual I am most faithful to. Dana at The Artists Room in Montclair, New Jersey, is my go-to – check her out if you’re ever there. As for the cut, I see Marissa of Marie Robinson, who keeps my hair healthy and in check.

For An Instant Glow…

Massaging apricot oil into the skin is one of the easiest ways to get a fresh, youthful glow, plus it’s really natural. I get mine in my local Whole Foods, but it’s widely available and found in so many products now. It’s pretty affordable, too.

Neal's Yard Apricot oil, £11.50

For Essential Tools…

Good make-up starts with greats tools: they’re the foundation to a smooth and even canvas. I love Sigma’s Best of Sigma Brush Set – it has everything you need from flat kabuki brushes to concealer and smudger brushes, so all bases are covered.

Sigma best Of Sigma Brushes, £82

For Daily SPF…

No matter the season, you have to wear sunscreen. I’ve been reaching for Supergoop’s range – it’s all natural and every single product has an SPF inside, so you never have to worry about it being an additional step. It’s also completely clean and paraben-free – I believe it’s much better to use clean products on your skin and face.

Supergoop Glow Stick SPF50, £38
Supergoop Shimmershade, £29
