GET LAST-MINUTE TICKETS FOR THIS: My Brilliant Friend
Based on the celebrated novels by Elena Ferrante, My Brilliant Friend is an epic tale of love, ambition, violence and self-destruction. Starring Niamh Cusack and Catherine McCormack, it follows the story of celebrated author Lenu Greco. When her friend Lila disappears without a trace, Lenu looks back at their 60-year relationship, which began in post-war and poverty-stricken Naples. The play is shown in two parts, so it will take a fair chunk of your weekend – but it’s well worth it.

ATTEND AN ITALIAN CARNIVAL HERE: The Coral Room
This month has seen Italian aperitivo Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto take over The Coral Room in Bloomsbury for Carnevale, a tradition celebrated in Italy since the 12th century. The vibrant salon-style bar is serving a menu of five Italicus aperitivo cocktails, drawing inspiration from the vibrant carnival character masks worn for the celebrations. Each of the cocktails represents key characters from the event: we like the sound of the ‘Rugantino’ (Italicus, white vermouth, juniper, tomato and Freni e Frizioni’s bitter mediterraneo) which is structured like a negroni but with a lower ABV. To celebrate the carnival’s finale, a masquerade party will be held this Sunday from 5pm till late. The evening will feature live music, including reinterpretations of samba jazz.
16-22 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, WC1B 3NN; until 23rd February

WATCH THIS: Little Joe
Little Joe follows Alice (Emily Beecham), a single mother and dedicated senior plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. She has engineered a special crimson flower, remarkable not only for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value: if kept at the ideal temperature, fed properly and spoken to regularly, this plant makes its owner happy. Against company policy, Alice takes one home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe. They christen it ‘Little Joe.’ But as their plant grows, so too does Alice’s suspicion that her new creation may not be as harmless as its nickname suggests. Also stars Ben Whishaw.
