Trend Report: The New Athleisure | sheerluxe.com
Athleisure has been part of the fashion scene for some time, but recently the trend has taken on a new identity. Adidas-style stripes have been replaced by chunky trainers, caps, zip-ups and vintage Levi’s. Here’s what you need to know to nail the updated look…

The pioneer of the look? Hailey Bieber. An early adopter of the original athleisure trend, the model has championed the ‘American Dad’ twist – think masculine, borrowed-from-the-boys camel coats, University sweatshirts, chunky trainers et al. But she’s also proven it doesn’t have to be androgynous – sharp-shouldered blazers and thick gold hoop earrings have featured regularly in her new gen-athleisure looks, while the addition of an over-the-knee boot here, a leather legging there, stops the style teetering too far into boyish territory.

Another early trailblazer was Sporty & Rich, the cult US label which has tapped straight into that 90s, All-American country club look. Founder Emily Oberg’s mission is to reinvent those oversized sweatshirts, vintage long-sleeved tees, oversized tote bags and pale grey sweatpants for a contemporary audience, emblazoning them with her tongue-in-cheek brand name and pairing them with ankle-grazing trenches and Bottega bags for a thoroughly modern approach.

If you’re not quite prepared to switch up your everyday look, we suggest these entry point accessories: New Balances, a baseball cap, or even some sweatpants.
