INDULGE IN SOME WANDERLUST HERE: Theatre For Dreamers By Polly Samson

It’s 1960 and the world is dancing on the edge of revolution, and nowhere more so than the Greek island of Hydra. A circle of poets, painters and musicians live tangled lives, ruled by the writers, and troubled couple, Charmian Clift and George Johnston. Enchanting and imaginative, Polly Samson’s new novel is a story of innocence lost amid the stormy undercurrents of an idyllic artist community. Seen through the eyes of a newcomer – specifically, teenager Erica who is wracked with grief for her mother – the story explores what happens to the bohemian group when competitiveness and jealousy bed in. This is sun-drenched escapism we could all use right now.

One of the National Theatre’s most renowned productions, Frankenstein was a global hit when it came to the stage a few years ago. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller as Dr Frankenstein and the Creature, the two actors famously flipped a coin each night to see which of the main roles each of them would play – leaving the audience guessing until curtain up. Didn’t get to see it in the flesh? National Theatre At Home is streaming a recording of the production on YouTube, with Cumberbatch in the role of the creature on 30th April and Lee Miller as the creature the following night. A rare chance to see two interpretations by world-class actors in one of the most revered venues in the world – all free of charge from the comfort of your own living room.
