Our Favourite Antique & Vintage Finds This Month

Combining antique and vintage furniture with fresh interiors is an approach championed by some of the industry’s most respected designers. Each month, we’ll be bringing you our favourite discoveries, all of which are available online. Just make sure you move quickly – these pieces are all one of a kind…

Nicola Harding from Harding & Read suggests embracing antique furniture to help a home feel more lived in. “To me, there is a peculiar alchemy in mixing old with new, combining pieces from different periods, price points and places of origin.” Designer Rosanna Bossom agrees, adding that vintage finds can help add layers to a scheme. “You can mix old furniture into a new scheme in so many ways. Look at the different materials you’re using. Ask yourself, where are the gaps? If there is already a fair amount of timber or wood in the scheme? If you don’t want to add in more brown furniture, look to materials like glass, lacquer or painted pieces. Mid-century furniture can work well with contemporary shapes. Conversely, traditional sofas or armchairs can look amazing with a modern print or weave. We spend hours trawling eBay or auction sites for hidden gems. They can be picked up for next to nothing and always add character.”
