The Best Vegan Lipsticks Worth Trying

The Best Vegan Lipsticks Worth Trying

If you’re a vegan who doesn’t let anything animal-based pass your lips, it makes sense not to use beauty products containing such ingredients – hence the rapid rise in vegan-based beauty. The good news is, the latest formulations don’t compromise on pigment, finish or longevity. Here are the ones to know…

3INA The Essential Lipstick in 105, £7.96

Available in 24 shades, 3INA’s vegan lipsticks have a velvet texture so it’s comfortable to wear all day. The creamy formula also makes it easy to sculpt and shape the lips, while the numerous available shades means there’s something for everyone. Our personal favourite is this nude tone in 105 – with peach undertones, it’s incredibly flattering.

Axiology Lip Crayon in Vibration, £28.75

Make-up artists love these ‘evil-free’ lipsticks. Created off the back of studies showing how much lip product we ingest day-to-day, the brand only uses clean ingredients. It also uses completely biodegradable packaging, while the aluminium tubes are recyclable, too. There are plenty of tones available, but we love this soft pink that gives just a hint of colour.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Bitten Lip Tint in Bisou, £30

Laced with hyaluronic acid and squalane, Victoria Beckham’s new lip tint does so much more than provide a wash of colour. It visibly plumps the lips for a fuller effect and can be dabbed onto cheeks, too, for extra colour. The shade itself is very sheer, but leaves behind a pretty flush to suit all skin tones. It really goes the distance, too – you’ll find it’s still there come 6pm.

Dose Of Colors Lipstick In Old Flame, £18

For those who prefer a matte dry down, Dose of Colors lipsticks come in a whopping 35 shades.  We love this coral tone that’s ideal for summer. Creamy upon application, it looks great against pared-back make-up and is a real statement. Despite the longevity, it feels surprisingly hydrating.

E.L.F. Cosmetics Velvet Matte Lipstick in Blushing Brown, £2.25 (was £4.50)

Argan oil, rose and vitamin E come together in this nourishing formula to soothe lips, while also coating them with long-wearing colour. Despite being matte, it still applies evenly and seamlessly for a flawless finish. There are only five shades available – so here’s hoping they extend the line in the future.

Glossier Generation G in Zip, £14

Glossier calls their Generation G lipsticks a “new kind of lip colour”, giving a just-blotted finish. We’re inclined to agree. The vegan formula is comfy to wear, with a light, sheer texture, and with a flattering and long-lasting matte finish. There’s not a single shade we don’t love from the range, but Zip stands out for those after a classic red.

Lime Crime Matte Velvetines in Red Velvet, £18

Lime Crime’s liquid lipsticks are often spied in make-up artist kits. Something of an insider secret, they provide a suede finish that’s intensely pigmented, without ever creasing or flaking, while their 100% vegan and cruelty-free formulas mean you won’t ingest any rubbish. Red Velvet is their signature shade, but there’s a spectrum on offer – from subtle pinks to deep, dark reds.

Milani Lipstick in Best Red, £14.97

Milani has a whole range of vegan lipsticks – 32 to be precise – all of which are PETA and Leaping Bunny-certified. The brand is also surprisingly affordable. This cool-toned red is one of our go-tos. Despite looking vibrant, it applies sheer and doesn’t create a harsh contrast against pale complexions.

Sainsbury’s Boutique Lip Velvet in Dragon Fruit, £4

Sainsbury’s beauty Boutique line is all 100% vegan, while the lipsticks are formulated with plumping peptides, vitamin E, shea butter and jojoba oils for extra hydration. We also love these glosses for saturated colour and a high-shine that goes the distance. At just £4, you can’t go wrong.

Light, comfortable and packed with clean, vegan pigment, this formula from Smashbox is a best-seller for good reason. Easy to apply thanks to the slanted bullet, it comes in a range of flattering tones that are perfect for both day and night. Bawse is rich, but surprisingly wearable – especially when applied with a finger for a more muted, feathery effect.
