How To Recreate This Cosy Bathroom

How To Recreate This Cosy Bathroom

When we saw interior designer Anna Haines’s bathroom, we couldn’t resist asking her how she did it. Here’s what she said…

Use Colour Wisely

“Stark white bathrooms can be clinical and cold, when you actually want to feel cossetted and comfortable. The wall colour is Cuisse de Nymphe Emui by Edward Bulmer Paints, and it's paired with timber floorboards painted in Farrow & Ball’s Dimity to give the space a bright and light feel. If you are painting your floorboards, make sure you seal them properly to protect against splashes and humidity.”

Introduce Furniture

“If you have the space, try putting a chair in your bathroom. It creates more of an unstructured aesthetic, as do an antique rug and artwork. These elements together can help soften the combined finishes.”

Be Clever With Joinery

"There was plenty of historic joinery already in place. The worktops were changed to painted, sealed timber and inside there are ceramic, undermounted sinks. The joinery was also painted the same as the walls so they didn't stand out too much – it helps keep the aesthetic calm."

Consider A Rug

"This one-off flat-weave rug shakes up the whole scheme. Just make sure you use a good underlay so it's not a slip hazard – if you have underfloor heating, check the underlay as not all are compatible."

Accessorise Imaginatively

"Plants can transform a space. They also help bring the outside in, and make the room feel light and more inviting. It's a similar approach with the artwork – use something unexpected so it feels less like a bathroom, while also remaining a serene space."
