The New Women’s Charity To Know

Spearheaded by two leading businesswomen, The Brilliant Breakfast aims to raise money for educating, training and employing disadvantaged young women in the UK. The premise is simple: invite friends and family to have breakfast with you (virtually or in person), share stories of inspirational women, and make a donation to The Prince’s Trust. Here’s how to get involved with this important project…

What is The Brilliant Breakfast?

The Brilliant Breakfast is inviting women from all over the country to get together for breakfast to raise money for The Prince’s Trust’s ‘Women Supporting Women’ initiative. From Tuesday 13th October, participants can start their day with a breakfast that will change lives by raising money for young women in the UK who need support.

The breakfasts – which can be arrange at any time, virtually or in person – have been launched by The Prince’s Trust, with the ambition of helping young women get the confidence and skills they need to go into education, work or training. Prince’s Trust research found over half of young women reporting that their anxiety has increased because of the Covid-19 crisis and that finding a job feels impossible – this is why it’s more important than ever to support them.

Who’s Behind It?

This new initiative has been spearheaded by two of the UK’s leading businesswomen. One is Annoushka Ducas MBE, a jewellery designer, creative director and entrepreneur who founded British jewellery companies Links of London and Annoushka. The second is Chrissie Rucker OBE, founder of The White Company. Both are patrons of The Prince’s Trust’s ‘Women Supporting Women’ initiative, which set out in 2018 to galvanise successful women from different industries to come together and help young women who have not had an easy start to life.

How Can I Get Involved?

  1. Sign up to be a host on The Brilliant Breakfast website.

  2. Invite your friends, colleagues or family. Book it in virtually or come together around your kitchen table, in your garden, at the office, over a weekend brunch – even over a Thermos of coffee in a local park. Just make sure to follow current government guidelines.

  3. Brew the coffee, make the tea, heat some pastries and butter some rounds of toast.

  4. Come together to share your stories of inspirational women over breakfast.

  5. Share your Brilliant Breakfast photos and stories on your social channels using the hashtags #TheBrilliantBreakfast #ChangeAGirlsLife and #WomenSupportingWomen.

  6. Make a donation to The Prince’s Trust.

I wanted to create an event that gets us together with family and friends, when connection is now so important, to raise much-needed funds and awareness for an exceptional charity. Breakfast is the least formal and fastest meal of the day, so it won’t take up too much of your time, either to host or attend.

Where Will My Donations Go?

All the money raised by The Brilliant Breakfast will support young women across each of the eight programmes run by The Prince’s Trust. These programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives, develop self-esteem and gain skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust successfully move into work, education or training.

Here's what different donations can do:

  • £5 could pay for a reading module towards an English qualification for one young woman.

  • £10 could teach one young woman how to manage money with a day-long budgeting session.

  • £25 could help one isolated young woman travel to a two-week course that will help her gain work experience.

  • £50 could ensure one young woman can travel to work in the month before her first pay cheque.

  • £100 could buy the equipment that opens up a lifelong career for one young woman on the margins of society – to become a chef, a hairdresser or a nail technician, for example.

  • £250 could give one young woman the freedom to explore her business idea through a ‘will it work’ grant.

  • £500 could unlock one young woman’s confidence on a 12-week personal development course which builds practical and emotional skills to help her take that next step into work, education or training.

  • £1,000 could give five young women struggling to make ends meet during Covid-19 the laptops they need to further their education.

  • £5,000 could inspire and rebuild the confidence of seven young women from the margins of society on a life-changing residential week.

  • £10,000 could give 100 young women equipment that opens up a lifelong career to help them and their families.
