Chimis, Southwark

As the ex-Brindisa Head Chef, Nicholas Modad knows a thing or two about rustling up the perfect Spanish plate. His first solo venture sees him going back to his Argentinian roots, with Chimis – a traditional Argentinian parrilla (grill) specialising in charcoal grilled meat and fresh fish. Dishes on the menu include pulpo asado (grilled octopus with stuffed polenta, served with smoked paprika and salsa criolla); grilled lamb cutlets and Argentinean rib eye and sirloin steak alongside grilled vegetables and pasta made in-house. Can you think of a better place to sink a glass – or bottle – of Argentinian malbec?

Indian Accent, Mayfair

With multi award-winning outposts in New Delhi and New York, expect big things from Indian Accent’s third and latest London outpost. Headed up by acclaimed chef Manish Mehrotra, this luxe Mayfair offering reinterprets nostalgic Indian dishes with a modern twist, drawing on cultural influences from all over the world. Devour bold, flavoursome dishes of ghee roast lamb with roomali roti pancakes or makhan malai, a medieval dish made with saffron-infused aerated milk; or lighter dishes of langoustines, french beans, moilee; soy keema, quail egg, lime leaf butter pao; and beet and peanut butter vadai, goat cheese pachadi.

Kazu, Fitzrovia

Kettner’s Townhouse, Soho

After an impressive 149 years in business serving everyone from Oscar Wilde to Edward VII, iconic Soho eatery Kettner’s sadly closed its doors in January 2016. But luckily not for good. January 2018 welcomed the new and improved Ketter’s Townhouse. Now part of the Soho House Group, Kettner’s has undergone a complete refurbishment, transforming this glamorous old-school eatery into a luxurious hotel, restaurant and champagne bar, with interiors inspired by the Soho landmark’s illustrious past. With a nod to its former grandeur, the restaurant will serve up traditional French cuisine in elegantly bijous surroundings.

Kudu, Peckham

Peckham has become a bubbling hotpot of trendy new bars and eateries. From Club Tropicana-themed cocktail dens to quirky neighbourhood gems, you can’t turn a corner without bumping into a slick new food spot, and the latest addition to its culinary palette is no less inspiring. With simple, pared-back interiors and an intriguing menu of seasonal South African delights, Kudu comes wrapped up in bags of style. Roughly plastered walls dressed up in dusky pinks and teal velvet seating provide the perfect backdrop to devour plates of potjie (cooked in a small cast iron pot) and braai (barbecued or roasted), with unusual combinations on the menu including pig’s head tortellini with mushroom and hay broth; chicken liver parfait with leek ash cracker; and braai lamb neck served with smoked yoghurt, lettuce and Brussels tops.

Sorella, Clapham

Taking over from Manor, The Dairy’s younger – yet bigger – sibling, comes Sorella, a gorgeous new Amalfi-inspired Italian from the team behind The Dairy. Owner/chef Robin Gill decided to vamp up his former food joint, which was a mecca for discerning foodies, to create a rustic, minimal space decked out in distressed wooden tables and bare brick walls, along with pasta machines, bread ovens, and gelato makers. Small bites come in the form of fried green Nocellara olives, or risotto-packed truffle arancini, whilst larger plates include antipasti with 20-month aged prosciutto Marchigiano; goats curd, kale & tomato pizzetta; fresh crab linguine with fennel and chilli; a hunk of roasted pollock with roe and chard; or a slab of succulent Yorkshire venison with charred onions. Oh and naturally, they serve the best Campari sodas this side of the Amalfi coast.

Nuala, Old Street

Ex-Chiltern Firehouse chef Niall Davidson brings a slice of Ireland to East London with his latest bar and restaurant opening. Downstairs the bar offers a whirlwind of music, craic and Irish mischief, whilst upstairs the bright, modern and airy restaurant, which centres around a giant brick-lined open fireplace, comes with plenty of cool contemporary and industrial touches. The menu is British and Irish-inspired, but a world away from traditional, with wondrous creations on the menu including bone marrow doughnuts; flamed clams in cider; king crab with Pernod butter; rotisserie goose with barley pancakes; and suckling pig and fireplace cabbage.
