A First Look At Monica Vinader’s New Sustainable Collection

Taking inspiration from the glamour of 1950s Italy, the new collection was created in collaboration with sustainability influencer, model and entrepreneur Doina, proving it’s possible to make the same stylish and durable pieces, while also being kinder to the planet. It also marks a continuation of the brand’s mission for all of its collections to be made from 100% recycled silver by the end of 2020. Expect plenty of chunky, gold vermeil rings and delicate chains which will transcend seasons and trends. We caught up with Doina to find out more...
What was your inspiration behind the collection?
The collection was born out of my nostalgia for a specific time – the European glamour we see in the Fellini films, shots of Brigitte Bardot in St Tropez, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Capri, Eden Roc by Slim Aarons – you get the idea. It’s a materialisation of certain emotions, combined with my imagination.
Why was creating it all from recycled silver so important to you?
Anything that can be done in a more sustainable way should be the default these days. It was such a bold statement on our part, but easy to implement. Luckily the team had already done years of research to make the transition seamless.
Why did you choose to partner with Monica Vinader?
It was actually Monica Vinader that approached me about the collaboration after seeing me speak at a Facebook conference years ago. When I met Monica herself, I fell in love with her desire to do better – that was the moment I knew it would work out.
What's your number one rule when it comes to jewellery?
My number one rule is to wear what makes you feel great. If anything is uncomfortable or not true to your style, it kind of defeats the purpose. Jewellery should be an extension of our mood and personality, not the other way around.
What are your tips for layering jewellery and looking good?
Try to mix different elements to create that perfect modern and classic clash. I love to wear multiple rings on one finger, even if they come from different eras. Ultimately, the way to make your jewellery look good is to stay true to your personal style and feel confident.
What's your top tip for a more sustainable wardrobe?
Always invest in the basics. They don’t have to be expensive, but they should look good and age well. That way you'll be able to wear those pieces time and again – it's an ethos that applies to your entire wardrobe, not just jewellery.
