The Rose, Kent 

At this pretty seaside bolthole, dogs are allowed in both the restaurant and lounge. Located in the charming seaside town of Deal, The Rose is the place to escape to for a night or long weekend. In the restaurant, chefs serve up a menu of classic British comfort-food with tasty twists, alongside an impressive Sunday lunch and cocktail selection. If you’d rather dine al fresco, there’s a pretty courtyard garden. Dogs are also welcome in a selection of rooms, all of which feature artistic touches, pops of colour and vintage furniture to give off an effortlessly cool vibe. In the evenings, indulge in a treat from the hallway bar – which is stocked with everything from tea and biscuits, to night caps – while dogs tuck into a treat of their own.

You’ll find this boutique hotel in the Cotswolds. A 16th century inn, there are five spacious and luxurious rooms here, as well as three suites and a beautifully converted shepherd's hut. Five out of the nine rooms welcome dogs, with treats including a comfy bed, food bowls and organic nibbles. When it comes to chill out spaces, relax in the clubhouse next to the open fire or pull up a chair in the terraced garden. The hotel’s traditional country pub, The Mason Arms, also has space for dogs. Boasting a warm and welcoming atmosphere, it serves up everything from cooked breakfasts to late night cocktails. Another Place, Lake District

For those that want to explore the great outdoors, head to Another Place. A family-friendly hotel in Ullswater, this is an idyllic spot for a long weekend or half-term holiday. There are 16 dog-friendly rooms in the main building, as well as roomy family cottages dotted in the hotel’s 18-acre grounds. Dogs are also welcome in the terrace and living space, giving you and them plenty of space to relax after a day of adventuring. The Swan, Suffolk

The Swan sits right on Southwold’s high street. Home to 35 bright and stylish rooms, including 11 garden rooms that look out over the pretty courtyard, dogs aren’t allowed in any of the public areas in the main house, but are welcome to lounge around the garden. Food wise, expect to find high-end pub grub here, with everything from fresh mixed fish platters to brioche bun burgers on offer. Dogs are allowed to run free on the southern end of the beach, too – past the last beach hut – and are welcome in most pubs and shops as long as they're on a lead. Dormy House, Cotswolds

If you’re heading to the countryside with your pet in tow, book into Dormy House. Once a 17th century farmhouse, the hotel now features stylish, modern decor and Scandinavian-style interiors for a clean, yet cosy, feel. Rooms 32 and 35 are pet-friendly, with dog baskets and bowls provided upon arrival. Pets aren’t allowed in the communal areas, but that doesn’t mean they won’t experience five-star service, with a dog-friendly menu available and a pet sitting service should you wish to venture out alone. Nestled deep in the Cotswold countryside, there are plenty of scenic walks to embark on, as well as charming villages to explore. The Victoria Inn, Norfolk

Just moments from beautiful Holkham Beach, The Victoria Inn is a dog-friendly hotel on the Norfolk coast. It’s home to 20 bedrooms, ten of which are located in the main house while the other half are in the Ancient House, a pretty cottage. Dogs are only allowed to stay overnight in the main house, so make sure you specify if you’re travelling with a pet when you book. This Cotswolds hotel lets you experience a woodland sleepover like no other. There’s an array of dog-friendly rooms available across the 400-acre estate – from cosy suites to trendy guest rooms – which welcome pups aged one and above. Each comes with a dog bed, towels, bowls and some special snacks. Guests with dogs can also stay in one of the magical treehouses. These sleep up to four, with bunk beds for children and a spacious decking full of outdoor seating and a heated bath. South Sands, Devon

This Salcombe based hotel has 13 dog-friendly bedrooms, some of which come with sea views. Beach suites are the largest of the bunch, with a private patio area, living room, kitchen and two bedrooms that sleep up to six. In the main building, ‘Dragon’ rooms feature balconies and window facing beds to let you enjoy the ocean vistas. Four legged friends are welcome in the bar, lounge and terrace – as long as they're kept on a lead. The best walk in the area is the route from South Sands to Salcombe, which takes approximately 30 minutes. It’s mostly flat and passes by North Sands – a dog-friendly beach – as well as the historic Fort Charles. This hotel even has its very own dog Instagram account, showcasing its favourite furry guests.

Wake up to the sound of the waves at Watergate Bay. There are 71 pretty bedrooms here, with dogs welcome in any of the first floor or ground-floor rooms, as well as the ocean-wing rooms and the coach house. Stylish dog beds are available on request. And, depending on your mood, there are multiple dining options available for you and your pet. The Beach Hut is our favourite spot: spilling out onto the sand, it has a relaxed beachy vibe that makes guests and dogs feel immediately at ease. Being the only hotel on Watergate Bay has its privileges, with a two-mile stretch of sand right on your doorstep – plus, stunning ocean views.

St Michaels is a five-star hotel based in Falmouth. Rooms here are decked out in traditional coastal colours, with sleek and stylish decor. There are three types of rooms that are dog-friendly: classic kings, bay-view rooms with a terrace, and bay-view suites. Bay-view rooms offer stunning vistas of the water, with plenty of room for the whole family. This hotel also holds prime position right on Gyllyngvase Beach, a Blue Flag award-winning stretch of sand. It's only dog-friendly from the end of September to the middle of May, but there are plenty of other sites in the area for dogs to enjoy.

Penally Abbey, Wales

This beautiful Grade II listed house is just a ten-minute walk from the scenic Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and moments from Penally Beach. With a relaxed, easy going vibe and rooms offering both sea and countryside views, it’s the perfect place to unwind. Dogs are allowed to stay in the coach house, where there are four bedrooms opening out directly onto the gardens. All the rooms are light and airy, with calming interiors that will make you, and your pet, feel instantly at ease.
