The Brand To Know: Naya Rea

The Brand To Know: Naya Rea

Baby doll dresses, exaggerated collars and scallop trims have dominated the fashion landscape of late. And no one embodies the trend more than Siberian label Naya Rea, which has just launched a capsule collection of dramatic, folklore inspired pieces with Moda Operandi. We caught up with the designer to find out more…

When I was younger, I spent my free time making clothes for myself and my friends – they were the ones who told me I should pursue this path. It took a while for it to sink in that it was possible, but the dream to have my own brand was born. Looking back, that was a long time ago – it’s taken me many years to actually pluck up the courage to do it.

The brand has come a long way since then – it’s now recognised by consumers and retailers all over the world. The support I've received from creatives and the brand’s followers during the coronavirus crisis has also been incredible. It’s so touching to see how many people believe in the Naya Rea name.

My multi-cultural background plays a huge role in my designs. I grew up in Siberia reading fairy tales and folklore, and this is clear in the delicate fabrics and colours, as well as the doll-like silhouettes.

I could never just pick one favourite piece from the collection – it changes so often. The Ludmila and Karolina dresses stand out right now as they are very easy to wear and put you in the mood for summer. Nor can I pick a favourite piece of all time. Usually, it's the one I'm working on at that moment. My inspiration for each piece is always different, but they’re all so important to me, for various reasons.

The Naya Rea girl is an adventurous dreamer – a girl who knows her worth and has a good sense of humour.

Our detachable collars make styling the pieces really easy. You can make your favourite dress look like a completely different outfit just by adding an accessory like this. Go for a full look with the collar for a super fairy tale feel or wear it without for a more casual look – I love to see how Naya Rea girls interpret my pieces and make them their own.

My wardrobe philosophy? There’s no such thing as too many dresses!

Only the future can tell what’s next, but what I know for sure is there’s a lot of work left to do, and so many exciting things to come.
