SL Tried This Online Personal Styling Service – Here’s What We Thought

Love new fashion but short on shopping time? Stitch Fix is the online service you need to know about. Based specifically on your taste, the brand will send you a selection of pieces to try in the comfort of your own home and better still, you’ll only pay for what you keep. To find out more, SL’s junior fashion editor Polly Sayer tried the service first-hand – here’s what she thought…

CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STITCH FIX

How It Works

It will come as a surprise to no one, but I love shopping. That said, like many working women, I don’t have lots of time to devote to it. It’s why I was keen to try Stitch Fix – hand-picked pieces I get to try on at home at my own convenience? Yes please. To start, all you have to do is complete a short style quiz on the site, which asks a few questions to determine your different tastes and preferences. I’m quite fussy when it comes to sizing, but there’s an option to select which items you prefer to size up or down in, which is pretty smart. After this, you'll be matched with a personal stylist will send you a selection of pieces based on your answers. You then get to try everything on to discover which ones you love without having to trawl through multiple sites or retail stores.

The Pieces

A few days later, a box of goodies lands on my doorstep. Inside are five pieces ranging from knitwear to dresses – to be totally honest, I was sceptical about whether I’d like any of it. However, I’m pleased to say I was pleasantly surprised. From an Isabel Marant-esque printed blouse to a buttery soft cashmere roll neck, everything could have slotted into my wardrobe nicely. Even the pair of jeans, which are notoriously difficult to get right when buying online, fit me like a glove. In the end, I kept the roll neck – plus, I only had to pay for it after making that decision; the rest I can send back with zero charge.

Why We Love It

There are many reasons to love Stitch Fix, but here’s why I rate it:

  1. It’s convenient. Once I’d finished trying everything on, I simply packed up what I wanted to send back, attached the prepaid returns label and dropped it off at a local pick up point. No printing required and no need to join a lengthy returns queue in store.

  2. The selections are spot on. Because the style quiz is so thorough, you can be confident everything sent to you will suit your style. Better still, there’s the option to submit feedback on the selections, so you can receive more of what you like in the future.

  3. There’s a wealth of choice. With over 100 brands available via the site, from high street to high end including 6 that're exclusive to Stitch Fix, plus a size range spanning a UK 6 to a UK18, there’s something to suit multiple body shapes and budgets.

How To Sign Up

Interested in trying Stitch Fix for yourself? Head to its website and complete the quiz to get your first ‘fix’ booked in. You’ll pay a £10 styling fee, which is redeemable against any of the items you decide to keep – pretty reasonable when you consider the fact postage is free and you'll be experiencing multiple different brands. There’s no subscription fee required either, so you can pick and choose when you want a ‘fix’. If you do want something more regular, there is the option to set up automatic deliveries. Plus, it’s not just for women – the men in your life can also take advantage of Stitch Fix’s personal shoppers, with an equally wide selection of menswear brands available.
