In The Know: Cool Things for Parents & Kids

Every month we round up some of the best finds for mums and dads, guaranteed to keep the kids busy and parents happy. From kid-friendly cookery classes to trips to the circus, here’s everything you need on your radar…

Alma Kids

Whether you’re looking for something to occupy the children during half-term, a fun idea for a birthday party or just something to fill an hour on a Friday morning, there’s bound to be something to suit in Alma’s broad range of kid-friendly classes. From cookery to baby yoga and even beginners gardening, there are also classes for mums, too. Why not try your hand at baby massage or give the dedicated workshop on weaning and child health a go?

On the hunt for stylish and modern children’s clothes? Ando offers a carefully curated selection, at an affordable price. Founder Bethany Ostacchini started the site during her maternity leave for her first child when, as she says, she wanted to find clothes which were a bit more “considered”. With items available for babies, toddlers, girls and boys, there’s even a section on the site dedicated to unisex options, as well as accessories and toys, giving little ones the chance to play in style.

We all know how hard it is to make time to get fit with a baby in tow, which is why CARiFiT has set out to change the post-natal fitness game. Through an online membership, new mums can enjoy access to a full range of babywearing workouts – think normal fitness routines, just adapted so parents don’t have to be separated from their children. The nine months-worth of online workouts have been designed by ante and postnatal fitness experts, and are fully supported by a team of doctors, midwives and physiotherapists.

Giffords Circus

Touring England throughout the summer is the magical and mysterious Giffords Circus. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the circus is getting ready to let the fairy folk come out to play. Featuring a host of musicians, trained animals and gymnasts, and directed Cal McCrystal (Paddington Bear, One Man Two Guvnors), the circus heads out on the road in early April, making stops at Blenheim Palace, Chiswick House and Marlborough Common along the way.

Mabel And Fox

Named after the founder’s three-year-old daughter, Mabel And Fox is the place to head for modern, yet timelessly stylish nursery accessories. From animal print changing mats to polka-dot muslins and floral changing bags, there’s a design to suit every taste, theme and gender. Just be aware of longer-than-usual delivery times if ordering as a gift: changing mats can take between seven and ten working days to be dispatched, and a further five to arrive at your door.

Micralite Sleep & Go Lite

Parents who spent last Christmas travelling up and down the country visiting relatives would no doubt have found use for this multi-functional travel cot, playpen and bedside crib from Micralite. The ‘Sleep & GoLite’ is easily adaptable for infants and comes with its own expandable mattress and travel bag. The easy, compact foldaway design makes it ideal for on-the-go activities or at home.

Peppa Pig At The Southbank Centre

Sing and dance along with everyone’s favourite pig family in this interactive introduction to live orchestra. Mummy and Daddy Pig learn how to conduct an orchestra, exploring all the different sounds that instruments make, while the Pigs bring to life some of their favourite music from the show. Children will be able to join in with Peppa and her family, and even have a go at making their own ‘Oinkestra’.

Poppie Toys

Those living in the UK can now shop this adorable Stateside range of dolls’ beds and chairs. Whether it’s the dreamy cribs which catch your eye – available in blue, pink and yellow – or the flatter day beds and chairs, the entire range is hard to resist.
