In London, six new restaurants picked up a Michelin star – Core by Clare Smyth and James Knappett’s acclaimed Kitchen Table secured an impressive two stars. Michelin veterans Ollie Dabbous, Nieves Barragan Mohacho and Simon Rogan all won stars for their latest projects (Hide, Sabor and Roganic, respectively), while Ikoyi became the first West African restaurant in the capital to earn a star. Clare Smyth, the chef who catered for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, previously won three stars for Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. This time around, Smyth received the accolade for Core, her first solo venture which opened in Notting Hill last summer. Smyth served pork belly and wagyu beef burgers at the royal wedding in May, with guests such as Serena Williams and Sir Elton John later enjoying candy floss as a ‘midnight snack’. Smyth has used her position to promote equality in the industry, telling the *Guardian*: “It’s nice to be out there and doing it for female chefs.”
