Here’s how to pimp your pastels this spring. Last year’s colour palette was saturated with ice white separates, crisp blue shirting, surprising denim tailoring and sandy-hued layers – with a surprising excess of masculinity dominating the warm weather trends. Happily, the fashion world has rebelled against this stripped-back interpretation this year, replacing last year’s subdued, sensible shades with frivolous, ice-cream inspired colours. This isn’t a saccharine display of spring pastels. Forget baby blues and pale pinks, and imagine a sundae of pistachio greens, sherbet yellows, pale lavenders and candied oranges. Elsewhere, the catwalk offers an extensive source of inspiration; try boxy lilac jackets over pale cornflower jeans and look to simple satin slip dresses for a look inspired by cult Ukrainian label Bevza. How to wear it? Monochrome pairings are easy to dismiss (white is too stark, black too aggressive) so going tonal is the only viable option. But don’t let that put you off – elegant, summery and cool, try head-to-toe in one shade for a chic event, or mix and match for a fashion-forward approach. And if all else fails, blue denim is your friend. Pair with boyfriends, straight legs and flares for a failsafe spring look.
